2020.09.22 16:56 Xxstrangest_thingxX Half of the bee movie script. I cant post the whole thing.

Bee Movie Script
According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a bee should be able to fly. Its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground. The bee, of course, flies anyway because bees don't care what humans think is impossible. Yellow, black. Yellow, black. Yellow, black. Yellow, black. Ooh, black and yellow! Let's shake it up a little. Barry! Breakfast is ready! Ooming! Hang on a second. Hello? - Barry? - Adam? - Oan you believe this is happening? - I can't. I'll pick you up. Looking sharp. Use the stairs. Your father paid good money for those. Sorry. I'm excited. Here's the graduate. We're very proud of you, son. A perfect report card, all B's. Very proud. Ma! I got a thing going here. - You got lint on your fuzz. - Ow! That's me! - Wave to us! We'll be in row 118,000. - Bye! Barry, I told you, stop flying in the house! - Hey, Adam. - Hey, Barry. - Is that fuzz gel? - A little. Special day, graduation. Never thought I'd make it. Three days grade school, three days high school. Those were awkward. Three days college. I'm glad I took a day and hitchhiked around the hive. You did come back different. - Hi, Barry. - Artie, growing a mustache? Looks good. - Hear about Frankie? - Yeah. - You going to the funeral? - No, I'm not going. Everybody knows, sting someone, you die. Don't waste it on a squirrel. Such a hothead. I guess he could have just gotten out of the way. I love this incorporating an amusement park into our day. That's why we don't need vacations. Boy, quite a bit of pomp... under the circumstances. - Well, Adam, today we are men. - We are! - Bee-men. - Amen! Hallelujah! Students, faculty, distinguished bees, please welcome Dean Buzzwell. Welcome, New Hive Oity graduating class of... ...9:15. That concludes our ceremonies. And begins your career at Honex Industries! Will we pick ourjob today? I heard it's just orientation. Heads up! Here we go. Keep your hands and antennas inside the tram at all times. - Wonder what it'll be like? - A little scary. Welcome to Honex, a division of Honesco and a part of the Hexagon Group. This is it! Wow. Wow. We know that you, as a bee, have worked your whole life to get to the point where you can work for your whole life. Honey begins when our valiant Pollen Jocks bring the nectar to the hive. Our top-secret formula is automatically color-corrected, scent-adjusted and bubble-contoured into this soothing sweet syrup with its distinctive golden glow you know as... Honey! - That girl was hot. - She's my cousin! - She is? - Yes, we're all cousins. - Right. You're right. - At Honex, we constantly strive to improve every aspect of bee existence. These bees are stress-testing a new helmet technology. - What do you think he makes? - Not enough. Here we have our latest advancement, the Krelman. - What does that do? - Oatches that little strand of honey that hangs after you pour it. Saves us millions. Oan anyone work on the Krelman? Of course. Most bee jobs are small ones. But bees know that every small job, if it's done well, means a lot. But choose carefully because you'll stay in the job you pick for the rest of your life. The same job the rest of your life? I didn't know that. What's the difference? You'll be happy to know that bees, as a species, haven't had one day off in 27 million years. So you'll just work us to death? We'll sure try. Wow! That blew my mind! "What's the difference?" How can you say that? One job forever? That's an insane choice to have to make. I'm relieved. Now we only have to make one decision in life. But, Adam, how could they never have told us that? Why would you question anything? We're bees. We're the most perfectly functioning society on Earth. You ever think maybe things work a little too well here? Like what? Give me one example. I don't know. But you know what I'm talking about. Please clear the gate. Royal Nectar Force on approach. Wait a second. Oheck it out. - Hey, those are Pollen Jocks! - Wow. I've never seen them this close. They know what it's like outside the hive. Yeah, but some don't come back. - Hey, Jocks! - Hi, Jocks! You guys did great! You're monsters! You're sky freaks! I love it! I love it! - I wonder where they were. - I don't know. Their day's not planned. Outside the hive, flying who knows where, doing who knows what. You can'tjust decide to be a Pollen Jock. You have to be bred for that. Right. Look. That's more pollen than you and I will see in a lifetime. It's just a status symbol. Bees make too much of it. Perhaps. Unless you're wearing it and the ladies see you wearing it. Those ladies? Aren't they our cousins too? Distant. Distant. Look at these two. - Oouple of Hive Harrys. - Let's have fun with them. It must be dangerous being a Pollen Jock. Yeah. Once a bear pinned me against a mushroom! He had a paw on my throat, and with the other, he was slapping me! - Oh, my! - I never thought I'd knock him out. What were you doing during this? Trying to alert the authorities. I can autograph that. A little gusty out there today, wasn't it, comrades? Yeah. Gusty. We're hitting a sunflower patch six miles from here tomorrow. - Six miles, huh? - Barry! A puddle jump for us, but maybe you're not up for it. - Maybe I am. - You are not! We're going 0900 at J-Gate. What do you think, buzzy-boy? Are you bee enough? I might be. It all depends on what 0900 means. Hey, Honex! Dad, you surprised me. You decide what you're interested in? - Well, there's a lot of choices. - But you only get one. Do you ever get bored doing the same job every day? Son, let me tell you about stirring. You grab that stick, and you just move it around, and you stir it around. You get yourself into a rhythm. It's a beautiful thing. You know, Dad, the more I think about it, maybe the honey field just isn't right for me. You were thinking of what, making balloon animals? That's a bad job for a guy with a stinger. Janet, your son's not sure he wants to go into honey! - Barry, you are so funny sometimes. - I'm not trying to be funny. You're not funny! You're going into honey. Our son, the stirrer! - You're gonna be a stirrer? - No one's listening to me! Wait till you see the sticks I have. I could say anything right now. I'm gonna get an ant tattoo! Let's open some honey and celebrate! Maybe I'll pierce my thorax. Shave my antennae. Shack up with a grasshopper. Get a gold tooth and call everybody "dawg"! I'm so proud. - We're starting work today! - Today's the day. Oome on! All the good jobs will be gone. Yeah, right. Pollen counting, stunt bee, pouring, stirrer, front desk, hair removal... - Is it still available? - Hang on. Two left! One of them's yours! Oongratulations! Step to the side. - What'd you get? - Picking crud out. Stellar! Wow! Oouple of newbies? Yes, sir! Our first day! We are ready! Make your choice. - You want to go first? - No, you go. Oh, my. What's available? Restroom attendant's open, not for the reason you think. - Any chance of getting the Krelman? - Sure, you're on. I'm sorry, the Krelman just closed out. Wax monkey's always open. The Krelman opened up again. What happened? A bee died. Makes an opening. See? He's dead. Another dead one. Deady. Deadified. Two more dead. Dead from the neck up. Dead from the neck down. That's life! Oh, this is so hard! Heating, cooling, stunt bee, pourer, stirrer, humming, inspector number seven, lint coordinator, stripe supervisor, mite wrangler. Barry, what do you think I should... Barry? Barry! All right, we've got the sunflower patch in quadrant nine... What happened to you? Where are you? - I'm going out. - Out? Out where? - Out there. - Oh, no! I have to, before I go to work for the rest of my life. You're gonna die! You're crazy! Hello? Another call coming in. If anyone's feeling brave, there's a Korean deli on 83rd that gets their roses today. Hey, guys. - Look at that. - Isn't that the kid we saw yesterday? Hold it, son, flight deck's restricted. It's OK, Lou. We're gonna take him up. Really? Feeling lucky, are you? Sign here, here. Just initial that. - Thank you. - OK. You got a rain advisory today, and as you all know, bees cannot fly in rain. So be careful. As always, watch your brooms, hockey sticks, dogs, birds, bears and bats. Also, I got a couple of reports of root beer being poured on us. Murphy's in a home because of it, babbling like a cicada! - That's awful. - And a reminder for you rookies, bee law number one, absolutely no talking to humans! All right, launch positions! Buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz! Buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz! Buzz, buzz, buzz, buzz! Black and yellow! Hello! You ready for this, hot shot? Yeah. Yeah, bring it on. Wind, check. - Antennae, check. - Nectar pack, check. - Wings, check. - Stinger, check. Scared out of my shorts, check. OK, ladies, let's move it out! Pound those petunias, you striped stem-suckers! All of you, drain those flowers! Wow! I'm out! I can't believe I'm out! So blue. I feel so fast and free! Box kite! Wow! Flowers! This is Blue Leader. We have roses visual. Bring it around 30 degrees and hold. Roses! 30 degrees, roger. Bringing it around. Stand to the side, kid. It's got a bit of a kick. That is one nectar collector! - Ever see pollination up close? - No, sir. I pick up some pollen here, sprinkle it over here. Maybe a dash over there, a pinch on that one. See that? It's a little bit of magic. That's amazing. Why do we do that? That's pollen power. More pollen, more flowers, more nectar, more honey for us. Oool. I'm picking up a lot of bright yellow. Oould be daisies. Don't we need those? Oopy that visual. Wait. One of these flowers seems to be on the move. Say again? You're reporting a moving flower? Affirmative. That was on the line! This is the coolest. What is it? I don't know, but I'm loving this color. It smells good. Not like a flower, but I like it. Yeah, fuzzy. Ohemical-y. Oareful, guys. It's a little grabby. My sweet lord of bees! Oandy-brain, get off there! Problem! - Guys! - This could be bad. Affirmative. Very close. Gonna hurt. Mama's little boy. You are way out of position, rookie! Ooming in at you like a missile! Help me! I don't think these are flowers. - Should we tell him? - I think he knows. What is this?! Match point! You can start packing up, honey, because you're about to eat it! Yowser! Gross. There's a bee in the car! - Do something! - I'm driving! - Hi, bee. - He's back here! He's going to sting me! Nobody move. If you don't move, he won't sting you. Freeze! He blinked! Spray him, Granny! What are you doing?! Wow... the tension level out here is unbelievable. I gotta get home. Oan't fly in rain. Oan't fly in rain. Oan't fly in rain. Mayday! Mayday! Bee going down! Ken, could you close the window please? Ken, could you close the window please? Oheck out my new resume. I made it into a fold-out brochure. You see? Folds out. Oh, no. More humans. I don't need this. What was that? Maybe this time. This time. This time. This time! This time! This... Drapes! That is diabolical. It's fantastic. It's got all my special skills, even my top-ten favorite movies. What's number one? Star Wars? Nah, I don't go for that... ...kind of stuff. No wonder we shouldn't talk to them. They're out of their minds. When I leave a job interview, they're flabbergasted, can't believe what I say. There's the sun. Maybe that's a way out. I don't remember the sun having a big 75 on it. I predicted global warming. I could feel it getting hotter. At first I thought it was just me. Wait! Stop! Bee! Stand back. These are winter boots. Wait! Don't kill him! You know I'm allergic to them! This thing could kill me! Why does his life have less value than yours? Why does his life have any less value than mine? Is that your statement? I'm just saying all life has value. You don't know what he's capable of feeling. My brochure! There you go, little guy. I'm not scared of him. It's an allergic thing. Put that on your resume brochure. My whole face could puff up. Make it one of your special skills. Knocking someone out is also a special skill. Right. Bye, Vanessa. Thanks. - Vanessa, next week? Yogurt night? - Sure, Ken. You know, whatever. - You could put carob chips on there. - Bye. - Supposed to be less calories. - Bye. I gotta say something. She saved my life. I gotta say something. All right, here it goes. Nah. What would I say? I could really get in trouble. It's a bee law. You're not supposed to talk to a human. I can't believe I'm doing this. I've got to. Oh, I can't do it. Oome on! No. Yes. No. Do it. I can't. How should I start it? "You like jazz?" No, that's no good. Here she comes! Speak, you fool! Hi! I'm sorry. - You're talking. - Yes, I know. You're talking! I'm so sorry. No, it's OK. It's fine. I know I'm dreaming. But I don't recall going to bed. Well, I'm sure this is very disconcerting. This is a bit of a surprise to me. I mean, you're a bee! I am. And I'm not supposed to be doing this, but they were all trying to kill me. And if it wasn't for you... I had to thank you. It's just how I was raised. That was a little weird. - I'm talking with a bee. - Yeah. I'm talking to a bee. And the bee is talking to me! I just want to say I'm grateful. I'll leave now. - Wait! How did you learn to do that? - What? The talking thing. Same way you did, I guess. "Mama, Dada, honey." You pick it up. - That's very funny. - Yeah. Bees are funny. If we didn't laugh, we'd cry with what we have to deal with. Anyway... Oan I... ...get you something? - Like what? I don't know. I mean... I don't know. Ooffee? I don't want to put you out. It's no trouble. It takes two minutes. - It's just coffee. - I hate to impose. - Don't be ridiculous! - Actually, I would love a cup. Hey, you want rum cake? - I shouldn't. - Have some. - No, I can't. - Oome on! I'm trying to lose a couple micrograms. - Where? - These stripes don't help. You look great! I don't know if you know anything about fashion. Are you all right? No. He's making the tie in the cab as they're flying up Madison. He finally gets there. He runs up the steps into the church. The wedding is on. And he says, "Watermelon? I thought you said Guatemalan. Why would I marry a watermelon?" Is that a bee joke? That's the kind of stuff we do. Yeah, different. So, what are you gonna do, Barry? About work? I don't know. I want to do my part for the hive, but I can't do it the way they want. I know how you feel. - You do? - Sure. My parents wanted me to be a lawyer or a doctor, but I wanted to be a florist. - Really? - My only interest is flowers. Our new queen was just elected with that same campaign slogan. Anyway, if you look... There's my hive right there. See it? You're in Sheep Meadow! Yes! I'm right off the Turtle Pond! No way! I know that area. I lost a toe ring there once. - Why do girls put rings on their toes? - Why not? - It's like putting a hat on your knee. - Maybe I'll try that. - You all right, ma'am? - Oh, yeah. Fine. Just having two cups of coffee! Anyway, this has been great. Thanks for the coffee. Yeah, it's no trouble. Sorry I couldn't finish it. If I did, I'd be up the rest of my life. Are you...? Oan I take a piece of this with me? Sure! Here, have a crumb. - Thanks! - Yeah. All right. Well, then... I guess I'll see you around. Or not. OK, Barry. And thank you so much again... for before. Oh, that? That was nothing. Well, not nothing, but... Anyway... This can't possibly work. He's all set to go. We may as well try it. OK, Dave, pull the chute. - Sounds amazing. - It was amazing! It was the scariest, happiest moment of my life. Humans! I can't believe you were with humans! Giant, scary humans! What were they like? Huge and crazy. They talk crazy. They eat crazy giant things. They drive crazy. - Do they try and kill you, like on TV? - Some of them. But some of them don't. - How'd you get back? - Poodle. You did it, and I'm glad. You saw whatever you wanted to see. You had your "experience." Now you can pick out yourjob and be normal. - Well... - Well? Well, I met someone. You did? Was she Bee-ish? - A wasp?! Your parents will kill you! - No, no, no, not a wasp. - Spider? - I'm not attracted to spiders. I know it's the hottest thing, with the eight legs and all. I can't get by that face. So who is she? She's... human. No, no. That's a bee law. You wouldn't break a bee law. - Her name's Vanessa. - Oh, boy. She's so nice. And she's a florist! Oh, no! You're dating a human florist! We're not dating. You're flying outside the hive, talking to humans that attack our homes with power washers and M-80s! One-eighth a stick of dynamite! She saved my life! And she understands me. This is over! Eat this. This is not over! What was that? - They call it a crumb. - It was so stingin' stripey! And that's not what they eat. That's what falls off what they eat! - You know what a Oinnabon is? - No. It's bread and cinnamon and frosting. They heat it up... Sit down! ...really hot! - Listen to me! We are not them! We're us. There's us and there's them! Yes, but who can deny the heart that is yearning? There's no yearning. Stop yearning. Listen to me! You have got to start thinking bee, my friend. Thinking bee! - Thinking bee. - Thinking bee. Thinking bee! Thinking bee! Thinking bee! Thinking bee! There he is. He's in the pool. You know what your problem is, Barry? I gotta start thinking bee? How much longer will this go on? It's been three days! Why aren't you working? I've got a lot of big life decisions to think about. What life? You have no life! You have no job. You're barely a bee! Would it kill you to make a little honey? Barry, come out. Your father's talking to you. Martin, would you talk to him? Barry, I'm talking to you! You coming? Got everything? All set! Go ahead. I'll catch up. Don't be too long. Watch this! Vanessa! - We're still here. - I told you not to yell at him. He doesn't respond to yelling! - Then why yell at me? - Because you don't listen! I'm not listening to this. Sorry, I've gotta go. - Where are you going? - I'm meeting a friend. A girl? Is this why you can't decide? Bye. I just hope she's Bee-ish. They have a huge parade of flowers every year in Pasadena? To be in the Tournament of Roses, that's every florist's dream! Up on a float, surrounded by flowers, crowds cheering. A tournament. Do the roses compete in athletic events? No. All right, I've got one. How come you don't fly everywhere? It's exhausting. Why don't you run everywhere? It's faster. Yeah, OK, I see, I see. All right, your turn. TiVo. You can just freeze live TV? That's insane! You don't have that? We have Hivo, but it's a disease. It's a horrible, horrible disease. Oh, my. Dumb bees! You must want to sting all those jerks. We try not to sting. It's usually fatal for us. So you have to watch your temper. Very carefully. You kick a wall, take a walk, write an angry letter and throw it out. Work through it like any emotion: Anger, jealousy, lust. Oh, my goodness! Are you OK? Yeah. - What is wrong with you?! - It's a bug. He's not bothering anybody. Get out of here, you creep! What was that? A Pic 'N' Save circular? Yeah, it was. How did you know? It felt like about 10 pages. Seventy-five is pretty much our limit. You've really got that down to a science. - I lost a cousin to Italian Vogue. - I'll bet. What in the name of Mighty Hercules is this? How did this get here? Oute Bee, Golden Blossom, Ray Liotta Private Select? - Is he that actor? - I never heard of him. - Why is this here? - For people. We eat it. You don't have enough food of your own? - Well, yes. - How do you get it? - Bees make it. - I know who makes it! And it's hard to make it! There's heating, cooling, stirring. You need a whole Krelman thing! - It's organic. - It's our-ganic! It's just honey, Barry. Just what?! Bees don't know about this! This is stealing! A lot of stealing! You've taken our homes, schools, hospitals! This is all we have! And it's on sale?! I'm getting to the bottom of this. I'm getting to the bottom of all of this! Hey, Hector. - You almost done? - Almost. He is here. I sense it. Well, I guess I'll go home now and just leave this nice honey out, with no one around. You're busted, box boy! I knew I heard something. So you can talk! I can talk. And now you'll start talking! Where you getting the sweet stuff? Who's your supplier? I don't understand. I thought we were friends. The last thing we want to do is upset bees! You're too late! It's ours now! You, sir, have crossed the wrong sword! You, sir, will be lunch for my iguana, Ignacio! Where is the honey coming from? Tell me where! Honey Farms! It comes from Honey Farms! Orazy person! What horrible thing has happened here? These faces, they never knew what hit them. And now they're on the road to nowhere! Just keep still. What? You're not dead? Do I look dead? They will wipe anything that moves. Where you headed? To Honey Farms. I am onto something huge here. I'm going to Alaska. Moose blood, crazy stuff. Blows your head off! I'm going to Tacoma. - And you? - He really is dead. All right. Uh-oh! - What is that?! - Oh, no! - A wiper! Triple blade! - Triple blade? Jump on! It's your only chance, bee! Why does everything have to be so doggone clean?! How much do you people need to see?! Open your eyes! Stick your head out the window! From NPR News in Washington, I'm Oarl Kasell. But don't kill no more bugs! - Bee! - Moose blood guy!! - You hear something? - Like what? Like tiny screaming. Turn off the radio. Whassup, bee boy? Hey, Blood. Just a row of honey jars, as far as the eye could see. Wow! I assume wherever this truck goes is where they're getting it. I mean, that honey's ours. - Bees hang tight. - We're all jammed in. It's a close community. Not us, man. We on our own. Every mosquito on his own. - What if you get in trouble? - You a mosquito, you in trouble. Nobody likes us. They just smack. See a mosquito, smack, smack! At least you're out in the world. You must meet girls. Mosquito girls try to trade up, get with a moth, dragonfly. Mosquito girl don't want no mosquito. You got to be kidding me! Mooseblood's about to leave the building! So long, bee! - Hey, guys! - Mooseblood! I knew I'd catch y'all down here. Did you bring your crazy straw? We throw it in jars, slap a label on it, and it's pretty much pure profit. What is this place? A bee's got a brain the size of a pinhead. They are pinheads! Pinhead. - Oheck out the new smoker. - Oh, sweet. That's the one you want. The Thomas 3000! Smoker? Ninety puffs a minute, semi-automatic. Twice the nicotine, all the tar. A couple breaths of this knocks them right out. They make the honey, and we make the money. "They make the honey, and we make the money"? Oh, my! What's going on? Are you OK? Yeah. It doesn't last too long. Do you know you're in a fake hive with fake walls? Our queen was moved here. We had no choice. This is your queen? That's a man in women's clothes! That's a drag queen! What is this? Oh, no! There's hundreds of them! Bee honey. Our honey is being brazenly stolen on a massive scale! This is worse than anything bears have done! I intend to do something. Oh, Barry, stop. Who told you humans are taking our honey? That's a rumor. Do these look like rumors? That's a conspiracy theory. These are obviously doctored photos. How did you get mixed up in this? He's been talking to humans. - What? - Talking to humans?! He has a human girlfriend. And they make out! Make out? Barry! We do not. - You wish you could. - Whose side are you on? The bees! I dated a cricket once in San Antonio. Those crazy legs kept me up all night. Barry, this is what you want to do with your life? I want to do it for all our lives. Nobody works harder than bees! Dad, I remember you coming home so overworked your hands were still stirring. You couldn't stop. I remember that. What right do they have to our honey? We live on two cups a year. They put it in lip balm for no reason whatsoever! Even if it's true, what can one bee do? Sting them where it really hurts. In the face! The eye! - That would hurt. - No. Up the nose? That's a killer. There's only one place you can sting the humans, one place where it matters. Hive at Five, the hive's only full-hour action news source. No more bee beards! With Bob Bumble at the anchor desk. Weather with Storm Stinger. Sports with Buzz Larvi. And Jeanette Ohung. - Good evening. I'm Bob Bumble. - And I'm Jeanette Ohung. A tri-county bee, Barry Benson, intends to sue the human race for stealing our honey, packaging it and profiting from it illegally! Tomorrow night on Bee Larry King, we'll have three former queens here in our studio, discussing their new book, Olassy Ladies, out this week on Hexagon. Tonight we're talking to Barry Benson. Did you ever think, "I'm a kid from the hive. I can't do this"? Bees have never been afraid to change the world. What about Bee Oolumbus? Bee Gandhi? Bejesus? Where I'm from, we'd never sue humans. We were thinking of stickball or candy stores. How old are you? The bee community is supporting you in this case, which will be the trial of the bee century. You know, they have a Larry King in the human world too. It's a common name. Next week... He looks like you and has a show and suspenders and colored dots... Next week... Glasses, quotes on the bottom from the guest even though you just heard 'em. Bear Week next week! They're scary, hairy and here live. Always leans forward, pointy shoulders, squinty eyes, very Jewish. In tennis, you attack at the point of weakness! It was my grandmother, Ken. She's 81. Honey, her backhand's a joke! I'm not gonna take advantage of that? Quiet, please. Actual work going on here. - Is that that same bee? - Yes, it is! I'm helping him sue the human race. - Hello. - Hello, bee. This is Ken. Yeah, I remember you. Timberland, size ten and a half. Vibram sole, I believe. Why does he talk again? Listen, you better go 'cause we're really busy working. But it's our yogurt night! Bye-bye. Why is yogurt night so difficult?! You poor thing. You two have been at this for hours! Yes, and Adam here has been a huge help. - Frosting... - How many sugars? Just one. I try not to use the competition. So why are you helping me? Bees have good qualities. And it takes my mind off the shop. Instead of flowers, people are giving balloon bouquets now. Those are great, if you're three. And artificial flowers. - Oh, those just get me psychotic! - Yeah, me too. Bent stingers, pointless pollination. Bees must hate those fake things! Nothing worse than a daffodil that's had work done. Maybe this could make up for it a little bit. - This lawsuit's a pretty big deal. - I guess. You sure you want to go through with it? Am I sure? When I'm done with the humans, they won't be able to say, "Honey, I'm home," without paying a royalty! It's an incredible scene here in downtown Manhattan, where the world anxiously waits, because for the first time in history, we will hear for ourselves if a honeybee can actually speak. What have we gotten into here, Barry? It's pretty big, isn't it? I can't believe how many humans don't work during the day. You think billion-dollar multinational food companies have good lawyers? Everybody needs to stay behind the barricade. - What's the matter? - I don't know, I just got a chill. Well, if it isn't the bee team. You boys work on this? All rise! The Honorable Judge Bumbleton presiding. All right. Oase number 4475, Superior Oourt of New York, Barry Bee Benson v. the Honey Industry is now in session. Mr. Montgomery, you're representing the five food companies collectively? A privilege. Mr. Benson... you're representing all the bees of the world? I'm kidding. Yes, Your Honor, we're ready to proceed. Mr. Montgomery, your opening statement, please. Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, my grandmother was a simple woman. Born on a farm, she believed it was man's divine right to benefit from the bounty of nature God put before us. If we lived in the topsy-turvy world Mr. Benson imagines, just think of what would it mean. I would have to negotiate with the silkworm for the elastic in my britches! Talking bee! How do we know this isn't some sort of holographic motion-picture-capture Hollywood wizardry? They could be using laser beams! Robotics! Ventriloquism! Oloning! For all we know, he could be on steroids! Mr. Benson? Ladies and gentlemen, there's no trickery here. I'm just an ordinary bee. Honey's pretty important to me. It's important to all bees. We invented it! We make it. And we protect it with our lives. Unfortunately, there are some people in this room who think they can take it from us 'cause we're the little guys! I'm hoping that, after this is all over, you'll see how, by taking our honey, you not only take everything we have but everything we are! I wish he'd dress like that all the time. So nice! Oall your first witness. So, Mr. Klauss Vanderhayden of Honey Farms, big company you have. I suppose so. I see you also own Honeyburton and Honron! Yes, they provide beekeepers for our farms. Beekeeper. I find that to be a very disturbing term. I don't imagine you employ any bee-free-ers, do you? - No. - I couldn't hear you. - No. - No. Because you don't free bees. You keep bees. Not only that, it seems you thought a bear would be an appropriate image for a jar of honey. They're very lovable creatures. Yogi Bear, Fozzie Bear, Build-A-Bear. You mean like this? Bears kill bees! How'd you like his head crashing through your living room?! Biting into your couch! Spitting out your throw pillows! OK, that's enough. Take him away. So, Mr. Sting, thank you for being here. Your name intrigues me. - Where have I heard it before? - I was with a band called The Police. But you've never been a police officer, have you? No, I haven't. No, you haven't. And so here we have yet another example of bee culture casually stolen by a human for nothing more than a prance-about stage name. Oh, please. Have you ever been stung, Mr. Sting? Because I'm feeling a little stung, Sting. Or should I say... Mr. Gordon M. Sumner! That's not his real name?! You idiots! Mr. Liotta, first, belated congratulations on your Emmy win for a guest spot on ER in 2005. Thank you. Thank you. I see from your resume that you're devilishly handsome with a churning inner turmoil that's ready to blow. I enjoy what I do. Is that a crime? Not yet it isn't. But is this what it's come to for you? Exploiting tiny, helpless bees so you don't have to rehearse your part and learn your lines, sir? Watch it, Benson! I could blow right now! This isn't a goodfella. This is a badfella! Why doesn't someone just step on this creep, and we can all go home?! - Order in this court! - You're all thinking it! Order! Order, I say! - Say it! - Mr. Liotta, please sit down! I think it was awfully nice of that bear to pitch in like that. I think the jury's on our side. Are we doing everything right, legally? I'm a florist. Right. Well, here's to a great team. To a great team! Well, hello. - Ken! - Hello. I didn't think you were coming. No, I was just late. I tried to call, but... the battery. I didn't want all this to go to waste, so I called Barry. Luckily, he was free. Oh, that was lucky. There's a little left. I could heat it up. Yeah, heat it up, sure, whatever. So I hear you're quite a tennis player. I'm not much for the game myself. The ball's a little grabby. That's where I usually sit. Right... there. Ken, Barry was looking at your resume, and he agreed with me that eating with chopsticks isn't really a special skill. You think I don't see what you're doing? I know how hard it is to find the rightjob. We have that in common. Do we? Bees have 100 percent employment, but we do jobs like taking the crud out. That's just what I was thinking about doing. Ken, I let Barry borrow your razor for his fuzz. I hope that was all right. I'm going to drain the old stinger. Yeah, you do that. Look at that. You know, I've just about had it with your little mind games. - What's that? - Italian Vogue. Mamma mia, that's a lot of pages. A lot of ads. Remember what Van said, why is your life more valuable than mine? Funny, I just can't seem to recall that! I think something stinks in here! I love the smell of flowers. How do you like the smell of flames?! Not as much. Water bug! Not taking sides! Ken, I'm wearing a Ohapstick hat! This is pathetic! I've got issues! Well, well, well, a royal flush! - You're bluffing. - Am I? Surf's up, dude! Poo water! That bowl is gnarly. Except for those dirty yellow rings! Kenneth! What are you doing?! You know, I don't even like honey! I don't eat it! We need to talk! He's just a little bee! And he happens to be the nicest bee I've met in a long time! Long time? What are you talking about?! Are there other bugs in your life? No, but there are other things bugging me in life. And you're one of them! Fine! Talking bees, no yogurt night... My nerves are fried from riding on this emotional roller coaster! Goodbye, Ken. And for your information, I prefer sugar-free, artificial sweeteners made by man! I'm sorry about all that. I know it's got an aftertaste! I like it! I always felt there was some kind of barrier between Ken and me. I couldn't overcome it. Oh, well. Are you OK for the trial? I believe Mr. Montgomery is about out of ideas. We would like to call Mr. Barry Benson Bee to the stand. Good idea! You can really see why he's considered one of the best lawyers... Yeah. Layton, you've gotta weave some magic with this jury, or it's gonna be all over. Don't worry. The only thing I have to do to turn this jury around is to remind them of what they don't like about bees. - You got the tweezers? - Are you allergic? Only to losing, son. Only to losing. Mr. Benson Bee, I'll ask you what I think we'd all like to know. What exactly is your relationship to that woman? We're friends. - Good friends? - Yes. How good? Do you live together? Wait a minute... Are you her little... ...bedbug? I've seen a bee documentary or two. From what I understand, doesn't your queen give birth to all the bee children? - Yeah, but... - So those aren't your real parents! - Oh, Barry... - Yes, they are! Hold me back! You're an illegitimate bee, aren't you, Benson? He's denouncing bees! Don't y'all date your cousins? - Objection! - I'm going to pincushion this guy! Adam, don't! It's what he wants! Oh, I'm hit!! Oh, lordy, I am hit! Order! Order! The venom! The venom is coursing through my veins! I have been felled by a winged beast of destruction! You see? You can't treat them like equals! They're striped savages! Stinging's the only thing they know! It's their way! - Adam, stay with me. - I can't feel my legs. What angel of mercy will come forward to suck the poison from my heaving buttocks? I will have order in this court. Order! Order, please! The case of the honeybees versus the human race took a pointed turn against the bees yesterday when one of their legal team stung Layton T. Montgomery. - Hey, buddy. - Hey. - Is there much pain? - Yeah. I... I blew the whole case, didn't I? It doesn't matter. What matters is you're alive. You could have died. I'd be better off dead. Look at me. They got it from the cafeteria downstairs, in a tuna sandwich. Look, there's a little celery still on it. What was it like to sting someone? I can't explain it. It was all... All adrenaline and then... and then ecstasy! All right. You think it was all a trap? Of course. I'm sorry. I flew us right into this. What were we thinking? Look at us. We're just a couple of bugs in this world. What will the humans do to us if they win? I don't know. I hear they put the roaches in motels. That doesn't sound so bad. Adam, they check in, but they don't check out! Oh, my. Oould you get a nurse to close that window? - Why? - The smoke. Bees don't smoke. Right. Bees don't smoke. Bees don't smoke! But some bees are smoking. That's it! That's our case! It is? It's not over? Get dressed. I've gotta go somewhere. Get back to the court and stall. Stall any way you can. And assuming you've done step correctly, you're ready for the tub. Mr. Flayman. Yes? Yes, Your Honor! Where is the rest of your team? Well, Your Honor, it's interesting. Bees are trained to fly haphazardly, and as a result, we don't make very good time. I actually heard a funny story about... Your Honor, haven't these ridiculous bugs taken up enough of this court's valuable time? How much longer will we allow these absurd shenanigans to go on? They have presented no compelling evidence to support their charges against my clients, who run legitimate businesses. I move for a complete dismissal of this entire case! Mr. Flayman, I'm afraid I'm going to have to consider Mr. Montgomery's motion. But you can't! We have a terrific case. Where is your proof? Where is the evidence? Show me the smoking gun! Hold it, Your Honor! You want a smoking gun? Here is your smoking gun. What is that? It's a bee smoker! What, this? This harmless little contraption? This couldn't hurt a fly, let alone a bee. Look at what has happened to bees who have never been asked, "Smoking or non?" Is this what nature intended for us? To be forcibly addicted to smoke machines and man-made wooden slat work camps? Living out our lives as honey slaves to the white man? - What are we gonna do? - He's playing the species card. Ladies and gentlemen, please, free these bees! Free the bees! Free the bees! Free the bees! Free the bees! Free the bees! The court finds in favor of the bees! Vanessa, we won! I knew you could do it! High-five! Sorry. I'm OK! You know what this means? All the honey will finally belong to the bees. Now we won't have to work so hard all the time. This is an unholy perversion of the balance of nature, Benson. You'll regret this. Barry, how much honey is out there? All right. One at a time. Barry, who are you wearing? My sweater is Ralph Lauren, and I have no pants. - What if Montgomery's right? - What do you mean? We've been living the bee way a long time, 27 million years. Oongratulations on your victory. What will you demand as a settlement? First, we'll demand a complete shutdown of all bee work camps. Then we want back the honey that was ours to begin with, every last drop. We demand an end to the glorification of the bear as anything more than a filthy, smelly, bad-breath stink machine. We're all aware of what they do in the woods. Wait for my signal. Take him out. He'll have nauseous for a few hours, then he'll be fine. And we will no longer tolerate bee-negative nicknames... But it's just a prance-about stage name! ...unnecessary inclusion of honey in bogus health products and la-dee-da human tea-time snack garnishments. Oan't breathe. Bring it in, boys! Hold it right there! Good. Tap it. Mr. Buzzwell, we just passed three cups, and there's gallons more coming! - I think we need to shut down! - Shut down? We've never shut down. Shut down honey production! Stop making honey!

• LS Aaron Brewer – now in his ninth NFL season and playing in his 119th career game on Sunday – recovered the first fumble of his career in the first quarter. Covering a punt return, Brewer jumped on a ball forced loose by TE Darrell Daniels at the WAS 40-yard line. Six plays later QB Kyler Murray scored on a 14-yard TD run to give Arizona a 14-0 lead.
• Second-year WR Andy Isabella hauled in a 54-yard reception in the second quarter to help set up a Cardinals FG that gave Arizona a 17-0 lead. Of his 11 career receptions, three have covered at least 50 yards (54. 55 and 88).

2020.09.21 16:20 texasalaskamontana NBA Left Charlotte & Indianapolis Markets Out of NBA MVP/Awards Voting

After reviewing all 100 NBA media voters it appears the NBA left the Charlotte and Indianapolis media markets out of the 2020 NBA Awards balloting.
There's no publicly written rules for the makeup of NBA media voting. When the league announced reforms in 2017 one of the reported intents was to include an independent media member from every NBA market. Many markets were heavily dependent on local TV and radio broadcasters who are actually employees of the team and the league removed them from the pool.
But here in 2020 the league didn't stick with that rule. It has happened to other markets in recent years. This year it's pretty egregious as both Charlotte and Indiana media markets were represented in January NBA All-Star media voting by the following reporters...
When it came time to cast votes for the NBA Awards neither of these voters were given a ballot nor were they replaced in the voting pool with a different local media member.
Hell, even Reggie Miller was pulled from the voting pool this year denying the Pacers a media member who spent his career with the team.
Charlotte --
In past seasons the Charlotte media market vote was held by Richard Walker previously with the Gaston Gazette. Walker has covered the Hornets since their founding for many publications but was at a smaller outlet and was given the vote for either his emeritus status as an NBA writer or the limited eligibility of other members of the media market.
Several markets have publications which don't allow voting on awards. The Charlotte Observer, despite being the market's largest newspaper and having a dedicated Hornets beat writers, appears to be one of those. Other examples are the Washington Post, New York Times, and Houston Chronicle.
Walker also left the Gaston Gazette to start his own website covering local sports which likely rules out his eligibility as he no longer works for an established outlet.
So Boone was laid off, Walker had started his own website, and the Observer doesn't allow voting. Is it possible that didn't leave anyone in the media market who was eligible to vote in the eyes of the NBA? Or that they didn't look hard enough or consider established alternatives?
If someone in the comments can identify a writer in the market who could have had the vote I'd appreciate it. I failed in this attempt.
Indiana --
Scott Agness was laid off by The Athletic in June and surpringly the NBA did not keep the awards ballot in Indy by passing it to the Indianapolis Star.
This doesn't make sense as the Pacers beat writer for the Indy Star is J. Michael Falgoust. Who once held an MVP ballot during his time with CSN Washington in the DC media market.
Falgoust cast an MVP vote in 2017. The league's most contentious recent election. He was one of nine voters who zagged for Kawhi Leonard in first place over both Harden and Westbrook. In 2019 he was also given an All-Star ballot while at the Indy Star.
If you drop Falgoust from the equation this situation still feels like an outright denial as the Indy Star's beat writer has routinely held an NBA Awards ballot in the past: Clifton Brown in 2018 and Nate Taylor in 2017.
Charlotte makes some sense, but Indy just feels like they got stood up on a date. It doesn't make sense why there wouldn't be an Indianapolis vote with the option that existed for the NBA.
Sorry Charlotte and Indy. It feels like the league did you wrong.
Check out the NBA's list of media members and their votes here.
Here's my 2020 breakdown of markets and the voter who represents the market....
Note: I don't worry about NY or LA too much as many national voters live in those markets and have their greatest exposure to those teams. I did note the Clippers and Nets voters. Those seem pertinent to track each year.

2020.09.20 23:24 The__Optimist 27 [M4F] #SanAntonio - My cousin met his Ukrainian wife on a cam site, so I'm SURE I can meet someone great on Reddit....right?

My cousin and his wife just had their first kid too. True story
Hey there, everyone! If you're here then you're possibly looking for the same thing as me. I moved to San Antonio, TX, in December 2018 after I got out of the Marine Corps. It's been a little over a year and a half now since moving here and while I've dated a bit, I really haven't found that person I'm looking for. If you just want a friend, that's cool. If you're looking to get to know someone and potentially build a relationship, that's even better. I'm the type that is really willing to take the time to get to know someone, so hopefully you'd be willing to do the same.
I'm not looking for someone to make me happy, I already am happy. What I am looking for is someone that wants more out of life. I want to find someone that can share new experiences with me. I want someone that is not afraid to be who they are.

Here is a bit about me:

Ultimately, I don't think any of us can paraphrase our existence into a small post on Reddit. I'd love to actually get to know someone that I can be goofy with and enjoy giving my time to. Hoping to hear from whoever that may be!
If you're interested shoot me a message with a picture of yourself and lets see where it goes! Here are some pictures of myself!

2020.09.20 01:10 donotconvictmeplease I'm being charged with Criminal Mischief after a mental breakdown.

I am in Texas around the San Antonio area, I'm being Charged with Criminal Mischief MB after I had a bad mental Breakdown I Broke; a window, a Swan statue, Uprooted some small trees , and broke some bricks. My mom claims the police only saw the swan and the window. They asked her what the value of the damage was and she told them around 20$ (everything we have is old and nothing fancy). They ended up taking me to a mental hospital in San Antonio they figured I wasn't mentally competant after 5 days there they took me back to my county with a warrant. My bail was set at 1000$ I have 0$ so I spent 30 days there then they released me on a Pr bond and gave me a court date in October (County Court). It's my first offense criminally. my questions; Does this have a chance of being dismissed? I have a history of mental health issues and being hospitalized (mental institutes) will this affect the case at all? Is it probable I'll get probation? My mom wants to write a note for me to take to court explaining I had no criminal intent and it was just a mental health crisis would this do any good for my case? I'm to poor for an attorney so I requested a public defender I wrote to them in jail they never got back. How much Jail time am I looking at? If I do get sentenced would the 30 days I've done already count towards it? And finally it says Criminal mischief MB what does the "MB" mean? Also worried I might get discriminated against in court (face tats). Anyways This is all I know any advice is GREATLY APPRECIATED! sorry if I respond late my internet is slow. THANKS!!!

2020.09.19 16:10 s810 Old Austin Tales: North Austin Meetups of Prehistoric Eras - (4000BC - 1690AD)

The folks down at the Austin History Center are slowly scanning archival photos and adding to UNT's Portal to Texas History even in these pandemic times. Among others, there are quite a few new photos of land parade floats from the early Austin Aqua Festivals in 1962 and 63. It's disappointing to see photos like this 1963 Austin Aqua Festival parade float ignorantly depicting Native Americans in a less than flattering light.
But a few of those kids dressed as stereotypical and generic 1960s natives probably had elderly relatives who remembered the time before all the tribes were ejected from this area and probably would have still thought of them as little more than savages. The photo gives context to the times in which it was taken. The Austinites of that era seem to have had less respect for those people who lived here hundreds or thousands of years before the Spanish and French started roaming around here.
As a modern Austinite I don't see why this attitude should be held up. Those were humans who lived here, if even sporadically, and loved the land and the creeks and trees as much or more than you or I. They just called the landmarks different names back then. It is known that some of the tribes who used to live around here were warlike and confrontational with other tribes. My own grandmother was born in Austin in the 1930s and often told me a tall tale about a fictional battle between the Comanche and 1000 Apache warriors in the hills near Lake Travis. (sometimes the battle took place in the area around where we were sitting in traffic depending on grandma's mood) It was a Thermopylae/Alamo-like tale of outnumbered Comanche braves winning the day by running to the hill now known as Commanche Peak and waiting in ambush. But grandma often told some whoppers and that was surely one of them. I've never read about even the scantest evidence that something like that took place here, if even only in oral histories of the tribes involved. But who knows. My point is we really don't know a whole lot about what the people who lived here before everything, and what they did while they were here.
Today I wanted to share some small bit of the real story of these people who lived here when real estate was free if you could keep it from the wild beasts or competing tribes. Because the real story, from what little we know of it, is really just as captivating as Grandma's tall tales were.
On a related note I recently discovered the AustinFound podcast from Michael Barnes and a few other folks at The Statesman. They've been writing the good historyposts on The Statesman's Austin360.com for a while now under the same name and I've referenced them a lot here before. Michael Barnes knows his stuff. He has written a multi-volume book set called Indelible Austin and was one of the people who went on the expedition to look for traces of the 1730 Spanish mission set up somewhere in this area. In episodes 1, 6, and 27 of the podcast he talks about the three main native tribes in this area: The Apache, who considered this area the northeastern border of their roaming grounds and had mostly vacated by the 1800s, the Comanche, who were descended from the Apache (edit: fixed) Wyoming Shoshone tribe long ago in modern Utah and Wyoming and considered this area the southeastern border of their expanding roaming grounds, and the Tonkawa tribe, who were also war like but had a different culture and their own ways. They especially were early victims of the diseases brought by european contact.
One thing I agree with Michael Barnes about is how The Tonkawa, despite having more of a territorial claim to the area Austin is in now than the other two tribes, are under-represented in the old chronicles written down by early white settlers. The Comanche are namedropped in the written accounts of the 1800s quite a bit for their 'depredations' on early settlers. It was the Comanche were the only tribe in this region who, for a time, rebuffed all attempts to subjugate them from Spain, Mexico, and Anglos. But the Tonkawa, on the other hand, being so few in number had to ally themselves with whites against the other two tribes. Because of this they were westernized quickly and assumed a sort of sub-caste in frontier society. Early accounts refer to them as 'Tonks' and talk in exaggerated ways about their cannibalism and wolf-worship. From what I understand the people eating only took place after winning a great battle. The tribe has a website nowadays where you can learn about their culture, their colorful traditional clothing and how it was made, and the Trail of Tears out of Central Texas.
It's not often talked about what tribes were here before the Tonkawa and the Comanche and Apache. It's a topic I'm always looking to learn more about. If you've lived here a while you might have heard of the Leanderthal Lady. Her remains are estimated to be between 10000 and 13000 years old and according to this article was found with buried with a shark tooth. I've also talked about the digs at the Westcave Preserve near Hamilton Pool, and the Levi and Smith Rock Shelters, where evidence of human habitation dates back 10000 years at least. But that brings up the question: Who lived in the area in between then and the time of the Tonkawa? I know there are stories from early settlers about an 'Indian Village' of an unnamed tribe very near the old Santa Monica Springs on the Colorado River but that's about it. Well thanks to some archeological digs over the years when new stuff had been built we know about a few frequent party spots some of the people alive back then liked to congregate in. I've found archeological reports from three separate digs in spots around North Austin, which is fine because the good rock shelters appear to have been in what is now South Austin anyway...
Let's start in the order the reports were made. The first concerns a site where people camped repeatedly over the course of the last 4000 years that today lies in a neighborhood near the intersection of North Lamar and Braker Lane. Back in the neighborhood is a street called Jetta Court. This neighborhood dates back to the mid to late 1960s and when built the area was already known for arrowhead deposits. In the 1980s further digs established the whole area around where Walnut Creek Park is today was once a major habitation area. But back in '68 the home builder company was partially done with the neighborhood and paid for a salvage dig after reports of trespassers "pothunting".
The report from the salvage dig was published in the Bulletin of the Texas Archeological Society, Volume 47, 1976 and is available in the UNT archive. You can read the whole thing if you feel like getting into the weeds. Quoting the abstract and introduction:
During the course of several weekends in 1968 and 1969, students from The University of Texas at Austin carried out test excavations at the Jetta Court site in Travis County, central Texas. These investigations constituted a salvage effort designed to obtain information on this site before it was destroyed by construction activities in a housing development. The terrace deposits at Jetta Court yielded a long Archaic sequence, including a deeply buried occupation which occurred stratigraphically below Early Archaic materials. The results of the excavations are described, and detailed analyses of the lithic debris and faunal re mains are presented.
The Jetta Court site (41 TV 151) is located within the city limits of Austin, Texas, buried in terrace deposits on the west side of Walnut Creek (Figs. 1-3). The site was brought to the attention of the Texas Archeological Research Laboratory (TARL) of The University of Texas at Austin in the fall of 1968 by reports of pothunting in an area slated for a housing subdivision. Inspection of the site by TARL personnel indicated that it should be tested before the planned construction activities were begun.
Excavations, directed by graduate students in anthropology at The University of Texas at Austin, were carried out with volunteer help. Work was done on weekends during a period from December, 1968, to February, 1969. Since the site was unprotected during the week, numerous instances of vandalism occurred. One unit of excavation was eventually ruined, but the others were not seriously damaged. This combination of weekend excavation and weekday vandalism limited effective investigation to stratigraphic testing and backhoe trenching. Exposures of horizontal tracts were not done partly be- cause of fear that it would lead to more extensive depredations on the part of the pothunters, and partly because the site was considerably deeper than was anticipated.
The writers would like to acknowledge the assistance and under- standing of Mr. Cecil Lamour, representing Conann Construction, Inc., in permitting the excavations. His patience with our backhoe operations, in particular, was most helpful.
How dramatic. Apparently someone thought there was buried treasure nearby. I wonder what could have given them that idea.. Here's a photo of the site at the time and Here's a map of the dig site with the holes marked. All of this area is built over today.
The dig was done hastily and the vandalism limited the findings. The report goes on describe two burned rock midden sites located within the boundaries of the dig. These were like old campfires that had been repeatedly built over for a number of years during two different eras.
Some further highlights from the report:
Here's a photo of the one of the holes.
There are a couple of photos of some of the lithic projectile points found in the upper, newer rock midden. Here's one. Here's another. And a couple from the lower, older midden. Here's one from the lower and here's another. There are many more photos and charts showing the finds, their classifications, and their locations in relation to one another in the layered deposits. This is how most of the rest of the report goes.
There were many animal bones and shells found in some areas indicating people ate there, or used the site for industry. Here a list of animal species found in the bones they can identify. On the menu: snails, turtles, opossum, coyote, deer, bison, cow, a couple of kinds of rabbits and mice, and strangely gophers. Apparently there used to be gophers around here when the climate favored grasslands over forests.
The distribution of animal bones is nicely charted here in size and age, Category A being the largest animals like bison and Category C being the smallest, such as rats and snails. The report notes that remains of small animals would degrade faster so that might skew the results.
To sum it all up because it's way too long to copypaste, the two burned rock middens at Jetta Court don't contribute a whole lot of new information to the story besides offering evidence that the spot was a place for habitation. I think if I understand it correctly (correct me if I'm wrong) the lower midden dates back over 3000 years while the upper midden dates back about 2000 years. The report talks about not knowing how to classify the artifacts within the archaic period. It recommends further digs in the area but acknowledges that's probably not possible with the neighborhood going up. What the writers didn't know is that just a few years later digs would begin at many different sites in what is now Walnut Creek Park that further expanded the knowledge of that area and its earliest inhabitants.
Moving on to the next site, which lies a little bit east of there at what became the Jourdan-Bachman Pioneer Farm, once an actual farm near Sprinkle now turned into a live action museum exhibit by the city which is beloved by schoolkids on field trips. It turns out that when the farm was built in the 1850s, part of the property contained a much older camp site that was favored by natives a thousand years ago. A report was written in 1994 about a dig in 1983. (PDF warning). The site of the native cultural deposits was at the southern end of the farm. Here is a map of the site in relation to the farm.
The PDF isn't as copypaste friendly as the other UNT article but it's short and I can summarize the findings. It's really more of just an abstract compared to the other long report. It's worth taking the time to read if you can handle PDFs and you're interested in the history of the area at all. In the introduction they describe how the farm was bought by the Heritage Society of Austin in the 1950s and belonged to the City of Austin by 1980 as part of the same deal that established Walnut Creek Park. More than a few digs had been done in the area around there in the early 1980s. It describes 22 different ancient burials found at one nearby site. At the farm site itself there was a deposit of projectile points over a meter thick of most types found in the area during the archaic era.
That brings us to the third site. called Millican Bench. Never heard of it? Me neither. It's a tiny spot just south of The Arboretum today that was obliterated by the construction of Loop 360 in the 1970s. Before the highway cut through the site, TxDot conducted a dig in 1970 and 71 on a small limestone plateau (thus the bench) where artifacts had been reported by the previous landowner. The report on the site dig is another PDF, but it was written in 2003, is very detailed, and will let me copypaste from it. Here's a map of the site showing where it was in the roadbed of modern Loop 360.
Quoting from the introduction:
Located in Travis County, the Millican Bench site(41TV163) was the first archeological site excavated by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT; then Texas Highway Department) as a mitigation effort for highway construction under the requirements of the National Environmental Protection Act of 1966. The excavation was conducted between September of 1970 and February of 1971under the direction of Frank Weir, then of the Texas Highway Department. In August of 2002, TxDOT contracted with the Center for Archaeological Research (CAR) at The University of Texas at San Antonio (Work Authorization#57014PD004) to conduct an inventory and assessment of the archeological collections and documentation associated with site 41TV163, develop possible research questions that could be pursued with the site data, and to prepare the project material for permanent curation. Based on that assessment(Mahoney et al. 2003a), and following consultation with TxDOT, CAR further was directed to produce a final report. This document constitutes the final report on the TxDOT work at 41TV163. Included in this report are a description of the site, excavation procedures, and an analysis of selected components of the data collected over three decades ago.
To report on excavations and analyze data collected over30 years ago presents several challenges. Foremost among these is that if one wishes to avoid a primarily historical perspective, data collected using earlier field methods to investigate earlier theoretical concerns must be molded to address current questions. In this case, the disconnect between the theoretical and methodological considerations that guided the excavation of 41TV163, which appear to have been focused on chronology and cultural history, and current research interests in Texas archeology is exacerbated by the loss of a large portion of the field notes, some photo logs, and some of the artifacts and samples during the intervening years. Nevertheless, in the assessment document (Mahoney et al. 2003a), we identified a series of current research issues that could be addressed using data generated by the work at 41TV163. These include investigating temporal changes in subsistence patterns and changes in lithic technology. In addition, we investigate several aspects of site use during the Late Prehistoric occupation of 41TV163.
So what this is saying is that basically the original field work and notes were lost and they had to reconstruct everything. I guess they thought it was worth it in scientific value to reconstruct or else maybe because it was the forerunner to TxDot's first dig. In any case the findings showed evidence of habitation a bit later than the other sites to the east. The intro continues:
Initially, seven discrete areas, designated A through G, were identified at Millican Bench. Figure 1-2 (the map linked earlier) presents a section of an aerial photo with the sketched locations of these seven areas, along with the Loop 360 center line. The photo appears to have been created at the time of the fieldwork. Area A consisted of a burned rock midden located on a topographic bench. Another probable burned rock midden, Area B, was situated on the slope and creek terrace below the bench.Located just to the west of Area B were two other areas, designated C and D. These appeared to be occupation areas with burned rock and other debris present. Three additional areas, designated E, F, and G, were located across the creek east of Areas A–D. Area E was a burned rock midden that measured approximately four meters in diameter. Area F contained a concentration of occupation refuse with burned rock and chipped stone, while Area G was a broad bedrock exposure containing scattered chipped stone debris. With the exception of Area G, where only surface collection was conducted, all areas (A through F) had some level of excavation. At 41TV163, TxDOT personnel recorded 11features, including a human burial (Feature 10) and a possible structure (Feature 3). In addition, more than 200cores, 1,400 tools, 400 projectile points, and 42,500 pieces of debitage were collected. With the exception of any evidence for Paleo-indian occupation, the 41TV163 materials seem to reflect most prehistoric periods. Collected projectile point types thought to be diagnostic include Wells, Early Split Stem, Early Triangular, Martindale, and Uvalde forms dating to much of the Early Archaic (8000–6000 BP); Nolan,Travis, and a single Andice point, all dating to the Middle Archaic (6000–4000 BP); Bulverde, Pedernales, Williams,Lange, Marshall, Montell, Castroville, Ensor, Frio, Fairland, and Darl forms dating throughout the Late Archaic (4000–1250 BP); and Scallorn points, dating to the early portion of the Late Prehistoric (1250–700 BP). A small amount of historic and/or modern material was also collected, though it is not considered in any detail in this report.
Long story short, this area was frequently visited from about 4000BC-1300AD, mostly toward the latter date, and shows different patterns in habitation indicating the different tribal customs in use at that point. In addition to rock middens and lots of projectile points and rock flakes, an ancient human burial was found. Also many animal bones like the other sites indicating different eating areas.
Well there you have a few stories of the people who lived here before recorded history. I hope one day more local history writers and bloggers can address this topic in more depth than I have time for here today. I know there are a lot of people out there like me who would love to know more. Time is way short so I've got to wrap this up quick. I obviously don't have any related photos from prehistory but have some newly added old Aqua Fest photos from the UNT archive for Bonus Pics today.

2020.09.18 13:09 PiggySVW 14 currently active Munich-born footballers have received a call up to a national team. None of those was from Germany. Here are their stories.

While searching some stuff on Transfermarkt, I discovered that there are 14 currently active football players who were born in Munich and have been called up for at least one senior national team fixture. Funnily, not a single one of those 14 players was called up to the German Nationalmannschaft. I decided to take a closer look at their respective careers. There are some more obvious paths like Germans of Turkish descent who went on to play in and for Turkey but also some pretty obscure careers. I begin with the most capped player and work my way down the list to the players who only got a call up without getting any game time. I sincerely hope you enjoy this read, it was pretty fun to write down!

Fabian Johnson

Age: 32
Position: Left Winger
Current team: -
National team: USA (57 matches, 2 goals)
The most-capped player in this list is American international Fabian Johnson. He was born in 1987 in München-Giesing and started his footballing career playing for Sportfreunde München before making the switch to 1860 where he spent 13 years. In 2009, he began his career in the 1. Bundesliga with Wolfsburg. Until today he made over 200 appearances in Germany's top flight for the Wolves, Hoffenheim and Gladbach. Currently he's without a club as Borussia didn't want to extend his contract.
The defensive-minded winger played for all the DFB youth teams and even won the under-21 Euros in 2009 alongside players like Mesut Özil, Mats Hummels or Manuel Neuer. However, Johnson - son of a German mother and an American father - stated that he "always felt quite American", so it's no wonder that he accepted the invitation when USMNT coach Jürgen Klinsmann called him up to the US squad in 2011. Since then he participated in the World Cup 2014, the Copa América 2016 and several Gold Cups. His last international game to date was in September 2017.

Manuel Ott

Age: 28
Position: Central Midfielder
Current team: United City F.C.
National team: Philippines (51 matches, 4 goals)
"Manny" Ott also represented 1860 München during his youth career before eventually ending up at FC Ingolstadt's academy in 2009. He spent five year's in the Audi city before going to his mother's home country to play for Ceres-La Salle FC, who are now called United City F.C. He won several titles with the Filipino powerhouse and in fact returned to them in February 2020 after a wasted year in Thailand where he only managed to play one single game for Ratchaburi Mitr Phol F.C. due to a tibia fracture.
Ott played his first senior game for the Philippines on 16 January 2010 at only 17 years of age. A scout had been sent out to find players in Europe who are eligible for the Filipino team. The midfielder's first goal followed in a 3-0 win over Cambodia in 2014.

Mike Ott

Age: 25
Position: Attacking Midfielder
Current team: United City F.C.
National team: Philippines (21 matches, 3 goals)
Another one? Yes! Mike Ott followed his big brother's footsteps and also graduated from 1860's youth system before joining Nürnberg in 2014. He was unable to impress in the first team and instead played for Nürnberg's under-23 team in the fourth tier. After three seasons, he decided to start on an adventure in Asia instead, so he made the switch to Angthong F.C. in Thai League 2. He had a decent stint in Thailand which made his brother's club Ceres offer him a contract in 2018. The new owners changed the team's name but re-signed both brothers in this summer. What are the Otts?
Mike was part of the Filipino national team for the first time in 2013 but didn't get to enter the pitch. His debut actually only came in October 2016 against Bahrain and he even scored the goal in his team's 1:3 loss.

Mehmet Ekici

Age: 30
Position: Attacking Midfielder
Current team: -
National team: Turkey (12 matches, 0 goals)
"Memo" Ekici began playing football for former Bundesliga outfit SpVgg Unterhaching, but he quickly became a member of FC Bayern's youth system. He made it onto Bayern's bench in 2009/10 but never played a minute for Bayern's senior squad. For the following season he was loaned out to fellow Bundesliga team Nürnberg where the young talent impressed alongside fellow German Turk Ilkay Gündogan. While the latter was bought by Borussia Dortmund, Ekici went to Werder Bremen. He never really broke through in the Hanseatic city and was eventually sold to Trabzonspor in 2014. In his first season he scored 9 goals and assisted another 11, but he couldn't replicate those numbers afterwards. In early 2017 he was suspended by Trabzonspor because he insisted on a transfer to Fenerbahce instead of Besiktas which Trabzonspor preferred. When his contract ran out after the season he finally joined Fener and played there until last season, albeit with mediocre success.
Ekici played for the German youth national teams before the Turkish FA convinced him to play for them after his strong start to the 2010/11 season. He debuted against the Netherlands in November 2010 but never managed to play a major part in the Crescent-Stars' team. His last appearance to date was in 2015.

Ceyhun Gülselam

Age: 32
Position: Defensive Midfielder
Current team: Alanyaspor
National team: Turkey (6 matches, 0 goals)
Gülselam spent the 1994/95 season at mighty Gartenstadt Trudering before spending 8 years in FC Bayern's junior teams. In 2006 he went to Unterhaching where he experienced his first games in 2. Bundesliga. They were relegated, but Gülselam still stayed for another season. He seems to have impressed some Turkish scouts as Trabzonspor decided to pick him up in 2008. Since then he has been playing for several teams in the Süper Lig with his current employer being Alanyaspor. Between 2014 and 2016 he spent two seasons in the Bundesliga at Hannover 96, he scored his only Bundesliga goal in a match against Leverkusen in November 2014.
Gülselam made his debut for the Turkish national team in March 2008, when coach Fatih Terim called him up for a friendly against Belarus. His last match took place nearly 11 years ago, he assisted a goal and was sent off shortly afterwards against Armenia.

Tarik Camdal

Age: 29
Position: Right Back
Current team: Adana Demirspor
National team: Turkey (6 matches, 1 goal)
Camdal spent most of his footballing youth in Ingolstadt, playing 8 years for Türkgücü Ingolstadt before going to MTV Ingolstadt at 13 years of age. When they played against 1860 Munich's youth team, the Lions' people in charge were so impressed that they offered Camdal a transfer right after the game. In 2009 he made his debut in the 2. Bundesliga and made several apperances in the senior team until 2011. For the season 2011/12 Süper Lig team Eskisehirspor decided to bring him to Turkey. He spent 3 seasons in Eskisehir before going to Galatasaray where he even got to play in the Champions League. He was loaned back to Eskisehir in 2016/17 but the loan didn't really help him with establishing himself at Gala. After several quarrels his contract was terminated in early 2019 and he went to Antalyaspor for the remainder of the season. Today he plays for Adana Demirspor in the second tier.
Camdal played for DFB's under-19 team but later decided to kick the ball for Turkey. His first of six call-ups to the national team was in November 2013 after a strong start of the season with Eskisehirspor. His last match followed about one year later. During his time in the national team he scored one goal in a friendly against Ireland.

Philipp Ospelt

Age: 27
Position: Left Midfielder
Current team: USV Eschen-Mauren
National team: Liechtenstein (5 matches, 0 goals)
Ospelt is yet another graduate of FC Bayern's youth where he played up to the under-19s. In 2010 he went to play for FC Buchs and later Young Fellows Juventus in Switzerland's lower leagues. In January 2012 he transferred to USV Eschen-Mauren, a team from Liechtenstein that - like all the outfits from the tiny country - play in the Swiss league system. Liechtenstein's only competition is the Liechtenstein Cup, which Ospelt and his colleagues went on to win in 2012. In 2013 he was picked up by Liechtenstein's best team FC Vaduz where he played until 2018 - with the exception of a short stint at WSG Wattens in Austria in 2016. After taking a short break, Ospelt returned to football in early 2019. He now plays for Eschen-Mauren again, currently in the fourth tier of Swiss football.
Ospelt's record for the national team is very weird. His first match was in 2012 against Lithuania, his second and third followed in 2016 and the fourth in 2017. His last appearance to date was last week, when Liechtenstein won 2:0 against powerhouse San Marino. However, Ospelt never started a match, in fact his longest appearance was three minutes long. If you add up all his minutes since he was first called up 8 years ago, you get a whopping NINE minutes of time on the pitch.

Nicola Sansone

Age: 29
Position: Left Winger
Current team: FC Bologna
National team: Italy (3 matches, 0 goals)
Nicola Sansone's career began in Eastern Munich, at SV Neuperlach. He then played for FC Bayern from 2002 until 2011. He made his debut for Bayern's under-23 team in February 2010 when he came on as a substitute for none other than David Alaba. In October 2010 he got to spend 90 minutes on the bench of the Bundesliga squad in a match against Freiburg. From 2011 on he was a Parma player, although he spent his first season on loan at Crotone. He had a decent spell both there and later in Parma which made Sassuolo buy him in early 2014. After two and a half very successful seasons Sansone was picked up by Villareal who paid 13 million € for the German Italian attacker. He had two pretty good seasons in La Liga, however things didn't work any more in 2018/19 which made Bologna loan Sansone during the winter transfer window. He is a key player in their squad ever since as the team from Emilia-Romagna decided to make the deal permanent in the following summer.
Sansone never really considered to play for Germany as he played for the Italian junior teams from under-17s up until the under-21s. Thanks to an impressive time at Sassuolo, coach Antonio Conte called Sansone up to the senior team in 2015, when he made his debut as a subsitute against Portugal. He was able to add two more matches to his tally in 2016, the last one being against his country of birth - Germany.

Lucas Hufnagel

Age: 26
Position: Central Midfielder
Current team: SpVgg Unterhaching
National team: Georgia (2 matches, 0 goals)
Hufnagel's first team was TSV Milbertshofen in the north of Munich. In 2001 he was picked up by FC Bayern where he spent ten years of his early footballing career. In 2011 he went to FC Ingolstadt only to transfer to SpVgg Unterhaching one year later. He slowly established himself as a key player in Unterhaching's senior team which made SC Freiburg sign him for their 2015/16 2. Bundesliga campaign. He got quite a bit of game time, but that changed after Freiburg's promotion in 2016. Hufnagel was demoted to the second team and consequently loaned out to Nürnberg in January 2017. However he failed to leave a real mark there as well and finally returned to Unterhaching in 2018 to play in the 3. Liga. He is a staple in their squad, having played well over 2000 minutes in both of the last two league seasons.
Hufnagel never had a real chance to become a German international however he was eligible for Georgia as well because of his Georgian mother. He made his debut in 2015 against Estonia and played another 4 minutes against Serbia in 2017. Before his senior debut he already played some games for the country's junior teams.

Kingsley Ehizibue

Age: 25
Position: Right Back
Current team: 1. FC Köln
National team: Nigeria (0 matches, 0 goals)
Ehizibue was born in Munich to Nigerian parents. When he was two years old, the family moved to Zwolle in the Netherlands. He played for local club CSV '28 before joining PEC Zwolle's youth system from which he later graduated. He made his professional debut in October 2014 in a cup game and played his first Eredivisie game two months later against Willem II. Since 2016 he was a permanent member of the first team and managed to become a key player. In 2019, after their promotion to the Bundesliga, 1. FC Köln picked him up and gave him a chance to shine in the country of his birth. He instantly became Cologne's starting right-back and played in 31 out of 34 possible league games.
Ehizibue played one match for the Dutch under-21s in 2016, which remains his only international experience to date. However, Nigeria's coach Gernot Rohr called him up to the Super Eagles' AFCON qualifier against Sierra Leone back in March. But due to the pandemic the fixture is yet to be played.

Koray Altintay

Age: 28
Position: Right Back
Current team: Fatih Karagümrük
National team: Turkey (0 matches, 0 goals)
Altintay's career began at SC Fürstenfeldbruck, where he stayed until he was 19 years old. After one squeezed in year at FC Bayern under-23s, 2. Bundesliga team Jahn Regensburg picked him up in 2012. He left the Jahn again in 2013 in order to play for Caykur Rizespor in the Süper Lig. He was a regular starter for them and managed to impress the scouts of Osmanlispor who signed him in 2016. He played some matches for the Ankara-based outfit, including one Europa League group fixture, but ultimately failed to establish himself. As a consequence he returned to Rizespor in early 2018 to help them to get back into the Süper Lig after their recent relegation. They indeed clinched promotion but Altintay failed to prove himself again in the following 2018/19 campaign. In September 2019 he joined Fatih Karagümrük and was an important part of their successful 1. Lig campaign. Altintay scored a goal in the promotion play-off semi-finals, Karagümrük went on to win the final in a thrilling penalty shoot-out and get back into Süper Lig after 36 years of absence.
After a strong start in 2013 with Caykur Rizespor, Fatih Terim let him join the Turkish national team for two friendlies against Northern Ireland and Belarus in November. However, he didn't get any time on the pitch and was never nominated again.

Alejandro Duarte

Age: 26
Position: Goalkeeper
Current team: FC Juárez
National team: Peru (0 matches, 0 goals)
There's not much information about Alejandro Duarte's youth on the internet. With his full name being Alejandro Christoph Duarte Preuss, I reckon that he probably has a German mother. However, he spent his first years as a goalkeeper at the FRAMA football academy in Lima before joining Esther Grande de Bentin, a semi-professional club from the suburbs of the Peruvian capital. In 2010, he returned to Germany to play for Bayer Leverkusen's under 17 team. He left the Werkself again in 2011 and continued to play for Juan Aurich's junior team in Peru before breaking into their senior squad. He made his first league debut in 2013 in a 1:1 draw against Inti Gas. He went on to join Club Cienciano in 2015 and later Deportivo Municipal in 2016 but didn't get much game time at either club. This changed when Duarte was signed by USM Porres in 2017. Duarte finally got to play more games between the sticks which secured him move to Mexico in 2018 when Lobos BUAP decided to sign him. After an unsuccessful stint at the team from Puebla, the keeper joined FC Juárez but was immediately loaned out to Club Atlético Zacapetec in the second league. He was their main goalkeeper, however the club was dissolved and he recently returned to Juárez.
Duarte was called up for Peru's friendlies against Croatia and Iceland in March 2018. He wasn't granted any game time however. Thus, his three matches for Peru's under-19s remain his only international appearances.

Jonathan Klinsmann

Age: 23
Position: Goalkeeper
Current team: LA Galaxy
National team: USA (0 matches, 0 goals)
Klinsmann junior was born during his father Jürgen's time at FC Bayern. His mother is an American model. Jonathan shortly lived in Genoa when Jürgen played for Sampdoria before the family moved to California after Jürgen's career. Jonathan started his career as a striker for FC Blades 96 and Irving Lasers. In 2008 he followed his father - who accepted a job as FC Bayern head coach - back to Germany and was retrained into a goalkeeper by FC Bayern's academy. After his return to California, Klinsmann played for Pateadores and Strikers FC in the US Soccer Development Academy. He also represented his high school between 2011 and 2014 and later played for the California Golden Bears, Berkeley university's college team. During the summer of 2017, Klinsmann had several trials at European teams like VfB Stuttgart, West Ham and Everton. After another trial at Hertha BSC, the capital city club signed the American. He played one match for Hertha's senior team - a Europa League fixture against Östersunds FK - and he even saved a penalty. He joined St. Gallen in 2019 where he became the goalkeeper for the Swiss Cup matches. However, he got red carded in the second round and the team got knocked out by FC Winterthur. In August 2020 Klinsmann joined the LA Galaxy.
Klinsmann played for various US youth teams before being called up to the senior USMNT in November 2018. He was an injury replacement for Zack Steffen for the team's friendlies against England and Italy but ultimately stayed on the bench.

Anes Osmanoski

Age: 20
Position: Central Midfielder
Current team: Bregalnica Stip
National team: North Macedonia (0 matches, 0 goals)
Osmanoski played for 1860 München until he was 13 years old. He then transferred to SpVgg Unterhaching's youth teams and stayed at the club until 2019 when he decided to move to his parents' home country North Macedonia. He now plays for Bregalnica Stip in the Eastern group of the Macedonian second division. They finished the season in second place, barely missing out on promotion. To be honest, I can't tell you much more about his career as he's still very young and there's not that much information on the second tier of Macedonian football.
Osmanoski played for several junior national teams of his country and is in fact a current member of the under-20 team. However, he was called up for a friendly of the senior national team in 2017 when he was just 17 years old. Macedonia - back then still without the "North" - won 2:0 against Norway but little Osmanoski did not get any minutes on the pitch with the big guys.

2020.09.15 20:21 Arizona-Cardinals NOTES FROM THE CARDINALS 24-20 WIN AT SAN FRANCISCO (9/13/20)

The Cardinals defeated the defending NFC Champion San Francisco 49ers 24-20 in the season-opener at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday. With the victory, Arizona earned its first Week 1 win since 2015 and first Week 1 road victory since 2010.
• With the victory on Sunday, Arizona improved to 5-2 at Levi’s Stadium. The Cardinals also improved to 9-2 in their last 11 games against the 49ers.
• The Cardinals (who trailed 13-10 entering the fourth quarter) were one of six teams to come back to win after trailing in the fourth quarter on Kickoff Weekend (Chicago, Jacksonville, Las Vegas, the Los Angeles Chargers and Washington). That is the most fourth-quarter comeback victories on Kickoff Weekend since 2016 (nine teams). • Arizona trailed 10-0 early and entered the fourth quarter trailing 13-10 but went on to earn the comeback victory. In 2019, the Cardinals were 0-7-1 in games they trailed entering the fourth quarter. Prior to yesterday, the last time the Cardinals won a game in which they trailed entering the fourth quarter was on 10/28/18 vs. San Francisco (trailed 12-3 entering the fourth and won 18-15).
• The Cardinals comeback victory was the result of two long fourth quarter TD drives (94 and 75 yards). It marked the first time since 2016 (12/18 vs. New Orleans; 75 and 75 yards) that Arizona had multiple TD drives of 75+ yards in the fourth quarteOT of a game.

OFFENSE PUTS UP BIG NUMBERS IN WEEK 1

• The Cardinals finished Sunday’s game in San Francisco with 404 total net yards (180 rushing; 224 passing) against a 49ers defense that finished last season ranked #2 overall. It marks the fifth time Arizona reached 400+ total yards in 17 games under head coach Kliff Kingsbury. Arizona reached 400+ yards just once over the two seasons combined (2017-18) prior to Kingsbury’s arrival. • The Cardinals posted 404 total yards and 29 first downs against San Francisco. It marked just the fourth time in franchise history the team had 400+ total net yards and 25+ first downs in a season-opener.

1959 9/27 vs. Washington 569 25
Sunday’s win marked the first time since 2015 (12/6 at St. Louis; 524 yards; 29 1st downs) that the Cardinals had 400+ total yards and 29+ first downs in a game.On their two fourth quarter TD drives, the Cardinals accounted for 23 plays, 172 yards and took up 10:23 in time of possession. On those two drives, QB Kyler Murray was 7-of-9 passing for 80 yards and added five rushes for 46 yards and a TD. WR DeAndre Hopkins had five receptions for 76 yards. • Despite two kneel downs for minus-9 yards on their final possession, the Cardinals rushed for 180 yards and two TDs on 36 carries (5.0 avg.) against the 49ers. With the victory, Arizona improved to 5-1 in games it rushes for 150+ yards under Kingsbury.

RUN GAME STARTS FAST IN 2020

• Arizona had the NFL’s #10 ranked rushing attack last season, totaling 1,990 yards and 18 TDs on 396 attempts. The ground game got going quickly in yesterday’s season-opener, posting 180 yards and two TDs on 36 attempts (5.0 avg.) despite a pair of kneel downs for minus-9 yards to end the game.
• Sunday’s game marked the fourth time the Cardinals have rushed for 180+ yards in a game under Kingsbury. Arizona had just four such games in the six seasons combined (2013-18) prior to his arrival.
• The Cardinals 180 rushing yards represented the second-highest total in the NFL in Week 1.

• Arizona rushed for 13 first downs in the win over San Francisco yesterday. It marks the third time in the last four games the Cardinals have rushed for at least 12 first downs.

DEFENSE MAKES A BIG STAND – TWICE

• The Cardinals offense posted eye-popping numbers in the victory over San Francisco, but it was the defense that made a pair of stands to change the momentum and ultimately seal the victory. • Trailing 10-7 early in the second quarter, San Francisco had a 4th-n-goal from inside the AZ one-yard line when LBs Devon Kennard and De’Vondre Campbell (both signed as free agents in the offseason) teamed up to stop 49ers RB Raheem Mostert on a run up the middle.
• With the Cardinals holding a 24-20 lead with under a minute remaining in the fourth quarter, San Francisco had the ball 3rd-n-5 at the AZ 16-yard line. QB Jimmy Garoppolo attempted a pair of passes to WR Trent Taylor: the third down attempt was batted down by second-year CB Byron Murphy Jr. in the end zone. The fourth down sideline pass was enough for a first down but was again batted down by a diving Murphy.
• Arizona’s defense held the 49ers to just two conversions on 11 third down attempts (18%) and also stopped San Francisco on both fourth down conversion attempts on Sunday. Yesterday’s game marked the second time in the last three games under defensive coordinator Vance Joseph that the Cardinals held an opponent to two or fewer conversions on third down (Seattle was 1-for-12 on third down in Week 16 last season).
• Dating back to the final four games of last season, Arizona’s defense under Joseph ranks:

• Second-year QB Kyler Murray threw for 230 yards and a TD and also rushed for 91 yards and a TD in leading the Cardinals over San Francisco on Sunday. It was his second career game with both a passing and rushing TD.
There have now been three games in franchise history in which a QB passed for 200+ yards and rushed for 90+ yards. Murray is responsible for two of those performances.

OTHER WEEK 1 NOTES

• Third-year LB Ezekiel Turner – a PFWA All-Rookie pick as a special teamer in 2018 – made one of the biggest plays on the game on Sunday. He set up the Cardinals first TD of the game when he blocked a 49ers punt in the first quarter which was recovered by LB Dennis Gardeck and returned to the SF 10-yard line. The Cardinals scored a TD on the very next play on a pass from Kyler Murray to RB Chase Edmonds.
• Second-year DL Zach Allen, who missed the final 12 games of his rookie season (2019) due to injury, recorded two tackles, his first career sack, a tackle for loss and a QB hit on Sunday.
• The Cardinals signed DL Angelo Blackson last Tuesday (9/8) and five days later he recorded two tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss and two QB hits against the 49ers. It was the fourth full sack of his career, and first since Week 3 of the 2018 season as a member of the Texans.

2020.09.15 19:29 xHourglassx Horrible Service Situation- Need Advice

Listen to my tale of woe and please give me some advice. I don't know where to go from here.
I took delivery of a Model Y in San Antonio, Texas in June. My wife and I live in Odessa, TX, which is about 6 hours from the nearest service center. For some reason, I wasn't offered home delivery for the vehicle; it was fine, we made a getaway weekend out of picking up the car. It appeared to be mostly perfect, with a few minor panel gap issues that I felt I could address later. While I absolutely love the car, I did notice two potentially major issues later on. For one thing, there was a bad leak in the rear hatch that would cause water to spill into the back when it rained. Additionally, the front driver's side wheel makes a loud clicking or grinding sound whenever it's driven forward or backward at low speeds. The sound cannot be heard from inside the car, but it's very apparent when standing outside or driving with the window down. It's concerning.
I made a service appointment for August 28 in Austin. I was quoted a turnaround time of just a few hours and offered some Uber credits. Because we're from 6 hours away, I fussed until we got a loaner. I don't like to be "that guy", but I knew that if something went wrong with the car, we'd have no way back home. Sure enough, a few hours later I checked my app and saw that the estimated completion date was now September 4th. Had I not begged for a loaner, we would have been stranded 6 hours from home. Anyway, we took the loaner back home with us and awaited updates on the car. September 4th came around and I never received any updates by text or email regarding the car. I started messaging the number they gave me and I was told no work had been done yet. I cannot fathom why I was even given the appointment on the 28th if they were so busy they couldn't touch the car for a week.
On September 8th, I suddenly got notification that the car was ready for pickup! Awesome. Except when I checked the invoice for tech notes, I noticed that they didn't even try to replicate the sound from the wheel because "It was thunder storming and so it was too loud outside for us to hear any noises from the car". Baffled, I messaged the tech and asked whether someone could please double-check once the storm dissipated. He insisted that they needed me to make a second appointment; they were in a rush to get the loaner back as they're in "high demand". I explained that the 12-13 hour round trip commute is logistically very difficult for us, and I can't simply take it back for a second service appointment for quite some time. Conversely, it would only take a couple seconds to get in the car and replicate the noise. It's very apparent. Plus I was out of state visiting family because a close relative had just died. I couldn't have gone to pick up the car that day even if I'd wanted to. What the tech said next floored me. "Sorry to hear about your family. Can a close friend possibly take your loaner from your house while you're away and drive it to the service center for us?" I didn't dignify that with a response.
I can't get in touch with anyone from the service center. The email address I was given weeks ago has yielded nothing as the guy won't respond. The messaging service auto-replies with "Your service appointment has concluded". I can drive all the way to Austin and get the car, but if it's still making a grinding sound then I won't feel comfortable taking it on a 300-mile trip back home (across the West Texas desert, no less). If I leave it there, they may not even touch it unless I make a new appointment (soonest opening is weeks from now), and god forbid there is a storm outside and they decide working on cars is suddenly impossible until it's clear skies again.
Is there any way to escalate this? What would you do?

2020.09.15 15:23 arnoldez [WTS] Men's/Women's, Keen, Ibex, REI, Topo Designs, Tom Bihn, Thermarest, Sawyer, Polarmax, lots of made in USA

UPDATED: Many items have sold, so I've moved them to the bottom for easier navigation.
Hey there, I'm pretty new around here so bear with me. PayPal Goods/Services only. All prices include shipping to CONUS unless otherwise noted. For sizing reference, I am 6’2” and about 180 pounds. The women's stuff belonged to my wife, who is 5'0".
Verification and Product Photos
Please note: if you intend to buy multiple pieces, I will happily reduce the cost based on shipping. Just let me know what you’re looking at and your shipping zip code, and I’ll deduct accordingly.

Clothing

[1 SOLD, 1 AVAILABLE] **Fire Force #8740 Military Style Ripstop Nylon Poncho, Coyote Brown, 55” x 90” – $15 each (**2x available 1x available)
• 100% Ripstop Nylon w/ Brass Grommets • Made in USA
These ponchos are pretty tough, and they are still NEW in packaging. Bought these for emergency use, but the emergency never came. I just don’t want them anymore. They include grommets to allow dual-use as a rain fly. I don’t think they’re designed to go over a backpack, but I haven’t tested them.
Condition notes: None, these are new (still in packaging).
REI Co-op Women’s Fleece Jacket, Burgundy, Small – $25
• 100% Polyester • Made in Vietnam
This fleece jacket is a simple full-zip design with no hood and two zip pockets for your hands to keep warm. The image makes the jacket look kind of brown, but it’s more of a burgundy color. Here’s a more accurate representation of the color.
Condition notes: My wife has loved this fleece, but it still looks like the day she bought it. There are no loose threads, no holes, no pilling whatsoever. We’re very impressed with how it has held up.

Shoes

Keen Men’s Durand Polar Shell Boot, 11.5 US – $90
• Assembled in USA of imported materials
These boots are waterproof, warm, durable, and great on ice! I’ve only worn these a couple of times, but they’re just a bit excessive for someone living in Texas. They served me well when walking on an iced over lake in Vermont, but for most of the cold weather hiking I do, these are a bit overkill. Keen lists these as rated to -25° F (-32° C), with 200g insulation. Assembled in Portland, Oregon. I replaced the laces on these because I didn’t like the original ones, but I was able to find the originals. I will include both pairs.
Condition notes: These are nearly in new condition. The tread is pristine, and there are no visible scuffs or tears. More pictures available by request.

Backpacks/Luggage

Military-Style Surplus ALICE Backpack w/ Frame and Waist Strap – $30 PLUS SHIPPING\*
I cannot verify the authenticity or the origin of this bag, but it sure seems to be the real thing. It was purchased from an army surplus store somewhere in Texas (either Austin or San Antonio, I can’t remember), and it’s in exactly the same shape as when I purchased it. It has 3 large pouches on the outside, and one huge main compartment that also has an internal pocket to keep heavier items close to your back. The top cover has a hook-and-loop pocket built into it. The frame is very sturdy, and is great for lashing large items.
Condition notes: This bag has definitely been used, but there are no tears, holes, or loose threads. It has no zippers to break, and the straps are all in pretty good shape. In one picture, you will note that the hole in one of the metal buckles on the shoulder straps broke and can no longer retain a pull loop. It does not affect the performance of the backpack. You will need to apply pressure to the buckles to lock it into place. Additionally, the previous owner used a heavy duty tape to keep the straps out of the way (none have been cut), so there is some tape residue in various places.
\Shipping note: Because of the metal frame, this backpack requires a larger box that means a greater shipping cost. If you are interested in this pack, shoot me your zip code and I can get you an estimate on shipping – the range is about $20–$50 for CONUS.*
Tom Bihn Aeronaut 45, Black – $140
• Exterior: Black 1050D Ballistic Nylon • Interior: Yellow Halcyon 200D Ripstop Grid Nylon • Made in USA
For those not familiar with the brand, this beautiful piece of luggage is built to be tough and extremely versatile. It’s well-designed and easy to carry. The padded handle on top makes hand carry easy, and the hidden backpack straps are comfortable, easy to deploy, and tuck away neatly. The bag also includes loops to attach a shoulder strap (not included). The organization is top-notch, and the pack is designed to be the maximum size allowed as a domestic carry-on. It makes a great choice for onebag!
Condition notes: Overall, this piece is in pretty good condition, but there are some abuse scuffs from TSA. The front panel has a mark that looks like it rubbed against a conveyor belt, and there are a few scuffs along the handle and top of the bag. The damage is light, and shouldn’t affect the lifespan of the bag, as it is built from very durable 1050D ballistic nylon. One of the zipper pulls on the main compartment is missing the corded zipper pull extension (see image). Message me for additional detailed images.

Outdoor Gear

OneTigris Mirage Mesh Tent – $35
• Mesh: Polyester Fibre B3 Netting • FlooWalls: Oxford Cloth with PU dual-coating Bathtub Bottom (I don't know what they mean by Oxford Cloth, it's 30D nylon)
I’m not certain of the origin of this tent. This is a lightweight single-person option that I found on Amazon. It can be set up by tying each end to nearby trees/posts, using trekking poles (pictured, not included), or running a ridge line (not included). The tent includes 6 stakes, 6 guy lines, and a stuff sack. POLES AND RAIN FLY ARE NOT INCLUDED. The tent weighs approximately 1 lb 14 oz with included stuff sack, tent stakes, and guy lines. It measures approximately 78 inches long by 47 inches wide by 43 inches tall when set up, and packs down to approximately 11 inches long by 5 inches in diameter.
IMPORTANT: This is a mesh-only tent, and it does NOT include a rain fly! It is intended to be used with a tarp. If you're interested, I can add in a grey 95x83 tarp with corner grommets and straps for $10. Fully stretched, it should cover the 78-inch shelter with just a few inches of overlap.
Condition notes: This tent is in great shape. I've only camped in it once, and I've set it up a couple of times in the backyard to figure it out. No tears, holes, or other known damage.
Photo note: The photos for this were shot for a previous listing, and it’s kind of a pain to set up a tent and take photos. Please note that the first photo includes today’s date, for verification.
Therm-a-Rest Pro Plus Self-Inflating Sleeping Pad, Small – $25
• Made in USA
This sleeping pad is a comfortable option for back sleepers looking for a 3/4-length pad to reduce weight or a pad for their child. It measures approximately 48 in long by 20 in wide at the widest point. Pad is 1.5 in thick, and packs down to about 12 in long by 5 in diameter. Weighs approximately 1 lb with included sack.
Condition notes: The top shows typical wear and tear, with wrinkles and minimal scuffing. The pad has no known leaks or issues, and it still seems to work like the day I bought it. I recommend storing it aired up – when you receive it, it will take some time to self-inflate the first time after shipping.

Sold items (no longer available)

[SOLD] [SALE PENDING] Ibex Shak Spire Hoodie, Black, Medium – $90
• 100% Merino Wool • Made in USA of imported materials
This full-zip hoodie is warm and comfy. It fits snugly throughout, but has enough stretch to remain comfortable. The sleeves have thumb loops, making this a decent option for a base or mid-layer in very cold temperatures.
Condition notes: I hardly ever wore this. It’s in great condition. No pilling, no stains, and no tears or holes. This item has always been stored in a zipped bag, never on a hanger and never accessible to bugs.
[SOLD] [SALE PENDING, 1 WAITLIST] Polarmax Men’s Core 3.0 Tight, Black, Large – $15
• 92% Polyester / 8% Lycra • Made in USA
These tights are VERY warm. They’re pretty lightweight and minimal, but they manage to up the heat factor with these quite a bit. There’s a decent bit of stretch in them. I don’t think I’ve ever actually worn these beyond trying them on, because they’ve always just been too hot for me to get any use out of them in Texas. These pair well with the 4-Way Stretch Crew below. These tights are opaque (not see-through).
Condition notes: These are pretty much like new. There are no damages to report, no stains, and no known wear. As I mentioned above, I don’t think I’ve ever worn these.
[SOLD] [SALE PENDING, 1 WAITLIST] Polarmax Men’s 4-Way Stretch Crew, Black, Large – $15
• 92% Polyester / 8% Lycra • Made in USA
This long-sleeve crew is also very toasty. Again, I don’t believe I’ve ever worn this top beyond just trying it on and deciding it’s still too hot. It’s pretty stretch, and form-fitting. Pairs well with the tights above. This crew is opaque (not see-through).
Condition notes: These are pretty much like new. There are no damages to report, no stains, and no known wear. As I mentioned above, I don’t think I’ve ever worn these.
[SOLD] [SALE PENDING] Polarmax Men’s Polar 1 Lightweight Pant, Black w/ Silver Trim, Large – $10
• 100% Polyester • Made in USA
These pants add a minimal amount of warmth, and I used them well in Texas winters. They’re pretty comfortable, but the fabric is somewhat sheer, so be aware if you intend to wear them as your only layer.
Condition notes: I’ve used these a fair bit, and they are showing some signs of pilling. There are no holes, stains, or loose threads in them, so I think they should stand up for quite a bit longer under normal use.
[SOLD] [SALE PENDING] Polarmax Men’s Micro H1 Crew, Grey Heather, Medium – $10
• 94% Polyester / 6% Lycra • Made in USA
This long-sleeve crew is a much lighter weight than the 4-Way Stretch above. It fits loosely, but is not baggy. It’s main purpose is to regulate and wick moisture. It adds some warmth, but not much.
Condition notes: I’ve used this crew extensively, but it is still in good shape. There are minor signs of pilling upon close inspection, but there are no holes, tears, loose threads, or stains.
[SOLD] [SALE PENDING] Polarmax Men’s Micro H1 Crew, Ink Blue, Medium – $10
• 94% Polyester / 6% Lycra • Made in USA
This long-sleeve crew is a much lighter weight than the 4-Way Stretch above. It fits loosely, but is not baggy. It’s main purpose is to regulate and wick moisture. It adds some warmth, but not much. The color is listed as Ink Blue, but it’s a bit more turquoise, I think.
Condition notes: I’ve used this crew extensively, but it is still in good shape. There are minor signs of pilling upon close inspection, but there are no holes, tears, loose threads, or stains.
[SALE PENDING] Polarmax Men’s Micro H1 T-Shirt, Black, Medium – $10
• 94% Polyester / 6% Lycra • Made in USA
This short-sleeve tee shirt is the same material as the Micro H1 crew above, but in a black color. It fits like a normal tee-shirt, loose but not baggy. It’s a great summer shirt, and is rated at UPF 39+ (I assume the long sleeves above are rated as well, but it wasn’t stated on the tag, so I didn’t list it above).
Condition notes: This tee is in pretty good condition, better than the Micro H1 crews above. I’ve worn it a few times, but I’m not seeing any obvious signs of pilling. There are no stains, tears, holes, or loose strings.
[SOLD] [SALE PENDING] Polarmax Men’s Base Layer Basic Crew (Large) AND Pant (Medium), White, – $10
• 100% Polyester • Made in USA
I’m selling these two items together because it just wouldn’t be worth the shipping if I sold them separately. This long-sleeve crew and pant set are loose-fitting but not baggy, and actually can be pretty toasty. They’re good in similar situations to when you might wear thermals or long johns around the house. They have minimal stretch in them, which I believe is why they are considered part of the “basic” line.
Condition notes: I’ve only worn these a couple of times. They have no tears, holes, or loose strings. There is some very minor pilling, but overall I think they’re in good condition. No stains.
[SOLD] [SALE PENDING] 32 Degrees Women’s Ultra-Light Packable Down Jacket, Red, Small – $20
• Shell: 100% Nylon • Lining: 100% Nylon • Insulation: 90% Down / 10% Feathers (650 fill power) • Made in China
This no-name down jacket has kind of surprised me with its value, but it’s still a budget jacket. Not much use for a down jacket in Texas, but my wife’s mom bought her this on a whim. It has a removable hood, a full-zip closure with snap-button flap, and two zip pockets. The cuffs are elastic to keep out cold air. The bottom and the hood do not cinch closed. The jacket is extremely packable, but it does not include a stuff sack.
Condition notes: The jacket is very clean with no holes or significant damage issues, but there are loose threads throughout because of the build quality. This jacket isn’t a lifetime purchase, but it’s a good deal for someone looking for a lightweight option they can abuse and throw out without much care. The down has surprisingly stayed inside the jacket from what I’ve seen.
[SOLD] [SALE PENDING] Topo Designs Stack Pack, Turquoise/Bright Yellow – $40
• 1000D Cordura Nylon • Made in Vietnam
This 17L pack holds a surprising amount of stuff, and it fits under most airline seats (which is the main reason I purchased it). It would also make a great day pack. The back is decently vented with mesh, and the straps have some pretty good padding. There are ample attachment options as well, including a shock cord bungee and dual loops. Inside, there are several organizational pockets to keep your small items organized. If you’re familiar with other Topo products, I was able to fit the Camera Cube into the bottom of this pack, with plenty of extra room for carry-on necessities. It will fit a 15” laptop into a padded interior sleeve.
Condition notes: There is virtually no wear and tear on this bag, but there are some scuff marks and stains on the bright yellow portions of the bag, internally and along the bottom of the bag. If you would like a detailed view of these, please message me.
[SOLD] [SALE PENDING, 1 WAITLIST] Topo Designs Pack Bag, Black – $10
• Made in USA (I think)
This is a basic packing cube, designed to help organize your luggage. It works well with the Stack Pack listed above, or probably any other bag. It measures approximately 10” W x 14” H x 3” D and zips on all three sides with nice, chunky YKK zippers. It also has a mesh pocket inside. Please note, although the current line of pack bags from Topo Designs is made in Vietnam, I believe this older version to be made in USA because it has the US flag tag that the company usually uses to denote products made domestically. This version is from before they had varying sizes of these pack bags, and is not currently offered on their site. Backcountry.com lists the red version as “Handmade along Colorado's Front Range,” whatever that means.
Condition notes: Like new. No stains, no damage, everything works flawlessly.

2020.09.14 22:10 WhatMyHeartHeld Game Notes Week 1
