2020.09.18 23:10 awoiaf Maester's Monthly Meta Magazine: 3rd Moon, 383 AC

Introduction

The Second Moon of 383 A.C. has come to a close!
Once every two weeks, we'll be posting a turn thread just like this one. Here you can do many things - post evidence for new skills, post your economy actions, participate in monthly awards, or join in on discussions and conversations with the sub as a whole. Make sure you check the Date Conversion Sheet to see when the current Moon will end and the next one will begin. While you may post into a turn thread at any point during the month, certain things - like subterfuge and economy - are dependent on the day you post them. Other things - like skill training - are adjusted only once a turn, at the very end of the IG month. This means you can wait until the two weeks are nearly up, and then proceed to post your evidence for learning a new skill. Editing posts after a thread has been closed is a method of metagaming. While we trust that each of you are working for the best of your story and the sub as a whole, in cases where edits create uncertainty, the decision will work in favor of the party who did not make the edit. If you wish to make changes, let a mod know, and they can be done in a separate, new comment.
These threads are designed to keep everything in one easy place, and to provide news - both IC, and OOC - to the sub as a whole. Make sure to read them thoroughly, and to ask the mods or your fellow players if you have any questions or concerns. We all aim to make this sub a great and welcoming place - which means we must all work together to ensure it remains fair, functioning, and fun. With that, we're ready to begin!
[The turn thread will close at 1700 EST/ 2100 GMT, 2nd of October].

Lore

The Kingdom of the Iron Throne converges once more in the great city of King’s Landing in promise of a Great Feast and Tourney. As many clamor for position and power, all eyes were attentively on the Queen.
Crownlands
The Grand Feast was certainly an event that bards and mummers would sing songs of. Spilling with a fruition of plots, dances and laughs the celebration was one to remember and would undoubtedly set the precedent of what was to come.
The Great Tournament proves to be a marvelous spectacle, although tarnished by injury and worry. Leo Lannister, the heir to Castamere, would be left a cripple at the hand of Vorian Dayne in a menacing joust. With Willlum Caron claiming victory in the Melee and Marq Royce displaying his personal prowess with a bow, it would be the Lord Paramount of the Honeywine, Androw Hightower, that would prove victorious in the ever exciting and dangerous joust. Where he named his future betrothed, Jenelyn Baratheon, his Queen of Love and Beauty for all the realm to see. It was Lia Cole, angry with her unmasking by the Hightower, that would unfold a series of events leading to an interrogation of the mystery knight’s true identity. Another of Velaryon’s brood arrives in the city.
The Second and Closing Feast dedicated in celebration of King Robert Baratheon would come to be just as spectacular as the first.
The Master of Whisperers proved most productive this moon. As is his duty, he investigates unsettling reports by meeting with Androw Hightower, Johanna Hightower, and Jeyne Tully, which then leads to some intimacy with Johanna. He finds time to enter the joust, a most painful venture, but disturbing reports soon bid him to inform Queen Myrcella of Pentoshi plots.
Reach
The Reach weathers a tranquil moon this time around.
Riverlands
In King’s Landing, Lady Jirelle Baelish reunites with her former betrothed, Robb Stark. Later, Jirelle hosts her bannermen for a gathering.
The North
The Warden of the North, Jon Stark, came to host his fellow northmen as well as other guests in a lavish party held in the Stark manse.
The esteemed bastard of Jon Stark, Kayn Snow, would come to have an almost lethal incident after a mistreated wound that resulted from the tourney. Luckily enough, Ryon Glover would arrive just in time to save the young man.
Kayn Snow and the Queen of the Iron Throne shared an intimate moment together in the Godswood before being interrupted by the Queensguard, Ser Florian Mallister.
Surreptitiously gleaning intelligence meant for Arlan Baratheon, Kayn Snow learns of the plots of the Golden Company, and [hones](https://www.reddit.com/awoiafrp/comments/iu0ipb/conspiracy_i_say/\) in on perceived treachery by the Lannisters.
Southlands
The Lady of the Arbor, Rhea Redwyne, arranged a series of meetings with three notable figures, Johanna and Androw Hightower being two of them, after the learning of specific information. The Lord of Oldtown would then continue to [call on his sister]([https://www.reddit.com/awoiafrp/comments/itlhsn/here_lies_the_table_oh_how_it_has_turned/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) in an effort to understand the knowledge he has obtained regarding Johanna herself. The interaction would come to be a violent and frustrating affair with tears and shouts thrown at one another.
Following these developments, Lord Androw Hightower summons his sister for a tense discussion.
Dorne
A mysterious young girl finds a rare ingredient of sinister nature in the ruins near Sunspear.
Back in the capital, the son of the Princess of Dorne, Lewyn Martell hosts a party held in the Martell manse, with invites and attendants from across the kingdoms.
Stormlands
The heir to Nightsong, Fletcher Caron, would inform the Lord Paramount of the Stormlands of knowledge obtained through infiltration. First came information regarding the infamous Master of Whisperers and his many courtships, including that of Johanna Hightower and Jirielle Baelish. Later in the moon came the intelligence of those in Essos, as the Golden Company plots the demesne of the Iron Throne. This would lead to Arlan seeking a meeting with her Grace, in an attempt to warn his liege of what was to come while Lady Connington meets with the Queen.
The Baratheon family would come together in the form of a family dinner, where marriage prospects and family ties were discussed.
Vale
The heir to the Eyrie, Alaric Arryn, sulked after his defeat in the tourney choosing to then wander the halls of the Red Keep in deep thought.
Up in the Mountains of the Moon, a brooding Donnahal Uthelhain, Chieftain of Clan Redsmith, reluctantly resolves to reach out to the Arryns for aid for his people.
Westerlands
Ser Manfred and his Riding Troupe as well as the Merry Men throw a party for one another.
Lady Eleyna Lannister quarrels with her mother and brother before meeting with vassals and allies both while her betrothed Leo Lannister has to deal with the fact he is a cripple after the joust.
Both Boar and Stag gathered together in an effort to make amends for past grievances, the result coming to be a sharing of drinks. Joining them would be Gareth Horpe, the heir to Ashgrove.
After a series of drinks and laughs, both Gareth Horpe and Loras Crakehall would drunkenly make their way to the Jolly Giant, an inn where the Crakehall currently resided. Both men would find passion in each other’s arms.
The Iron Islands
Rodrik Goodbrother plans a festival for his people of Hammerhorn to celebrate their return to economic stability. Meanwhile over in Ten Towers, Lord Harlaw summons his vassals for a raid on the Greenlanders. As they arrive, Lord Harlaw invites his fellow reavers to a feast to plan their raid on the greenlands.
The Wall and Beyond
The Night’s Watch lose a faithful brother to a wildling ambush. Much further north, war brews between the clans of the Ice River and the Frozen Shore. Joramun, Chief of the Ice River Clans rallies his people to march. Red Wolf, Chieftess of the Frozen Shore makes an attempt to find common ground, but no accord could be reached, thus Joramun prepares for battle.
Down in King’s Landing, the wandering crow, Dake, meets with the Master of Laws to secure new recruits from the dungeons, and discuss the need for a new maester for Castle Black.
Essos
Uthor Lothston, Captain General of the Golden Company, hosts a feast for his soldiers. Later that moon, Bartimos Bolton receives an interesting letter, and brings the news to the attention of Uthor.
Elsewhere, in the city of King’s Landing, the Braavosi envoy, Ferro Antaryon recovers from an illness as he readied himself to once more become involved in the Great Game.

2020.09.17 05:18 Diogenes_Camus RTX RWBY Panel Summary Notes

Well, I watched the RTX at Home RWBY Panel earlier this morning and I wrote a summary of notes that I wanted to share with everyone.
  • So it took a whole to get to the meat and potatoes of the RWBY panel. The first 20-25 minutes was the CRWBY members shilling out a lot of merchandise. Also, the RWBY: The Grimm Campaign series has stuff that's canon to the world of RWBY. So if there's any diehard DxD fans here who are interested, by all means, do us a solid and try to make notes for us.
  • Anyways, on to some new info. Volumes 7, 8, and 9 were greenlit together. According to Eddy Rivas, Volume 9 is about a few weeks from being completed.
  • RWBY Volume 8 is coming out on November 7th, with a big asterisk attached because of the COVID-19 pandemic forcing CRWBY to work remotely, so there may be delays. But this can tangentially be considered the premiere date for Volume 8.
  • Volume 8 is going to have 14 episodes. They've been excited for this one for years.
  • JNPR Anthology Manga coming out (EDIT: It's coming out July 2021.)
  • A new RWBY video game is coming out, in partnership with Arc System Works and Wayforward, with Wayforward being in charge of production while Arc System Works is in charge of distribution. You may know Wayforward with their game River City Girls which they made in partnership with Arc System Works.
Now, to get to the questions that were asked in video form.
.
We know Ruby's birthday is October 31st. What are other character's birthdays?
Answer: Neptune- May 1 (same as Kerry's)
Weiss- May 15 (Taurus)
Blake- January 19 (Capricorn)
Yang- July 28 (Leo)
They based the birthdays on astrological horoscope stuff. Sadly, the main girls were the only ones who's birthdays were revealed. There was some joking about Jaune's birthday being February 29 or April 1, along with Sun. But that was just joking.
.
Will Team RWBY be visually retconned to having a more appropriate, definitive musculature?
Answer: The person was basically asking if it's going to be possible to see the main characters have a sort of visual retcon with a more definitive musclature to them, as fitting with their Huntress profession. And I'm like yeah, give us dem #RenAbs back.
CRWBY said that it may or may not happen with the next RWBY clothing change in the future. They don't want to create a drastic change in how their characters look. They mentioned about how when they were starting out, they tended to use one regular body model and didn't have the time or budget to be specific with the body types of the character models. CRWBY mentioned that it's possible with the new characters that get revealed.
They also revealed that Ace Ops were planned to being physically diverse, which is why Harriet Bree has runner's legs and Elm Ederne has a tall and bulky and thicc figure.
.
What would you do if you met your characters in real life?
Boring. That's a question that's been asked thousands of times before. I'm not even going to bother writing down or even remembering whatever CRWBY said in response to this question. Moving on.
.
In an universe where the Grimm can only be defeated with music, and Hunters are musicians, what songs would they play?
Answer: "Thunderstruck" by AC/DC and "Immigrant Song" by Led Zeppelin.
At least that's a very creative question to ask.
.
Does Ironwood and Watts have Semblances?
Answer: Watts has no Semblance. He knows basic self-defense and he's relied more on his wits and his manipulation of technology. He thinks that developing one was a waste of time when compared to what he could do with tech and stuff.
.
For James, he has a Semblance called "Mettle". It's a passive one that basically gives him a stubborn, hyperfocused, disciplined, Iron Will mindset, which I guess is similar to Ren's Tranquility.
DC Rant Time
.
Now hol' up. I got some fucking choice words here because I think that explanation is pretty dumb and doesn't make sense. "Watts refuses to unlock his Semblance because he doesn't care" because that does not fit his character. He's a scientist: of course he'd want his Semblance in case it grants him something like enhanced learning or a better memory.
.
As for Ironwood, his Semblance is kind of lame. Ironwood's is just being a stubborn dickhead and that's not a superpower, that's just being human. Feels like a cop out. I call it stupid because instead of it being one of his character's traits, it's a power. That he wouldn't have an iron will if he didn't have it. So it devalues his character. It's stupid.
.
And Ironwood's Aura was already broken when he got through the pain to get out of Watts' trap, so it shouldn't have worked there. So either way, it is pointless, it does nothing.
.
It's like if Ruby's Semblance was making her optimistic and look at the world as half-full in spite of the darkness in it. Instead of her being like that because that's who she is.
.
It's just stupid and devalues his character. IMO it's best to ignore it and just assume he just never found his.
.
In fact, if you stop to think about it, it kind of sucks that Ironwood has a passive Semblance like that that he can't control, that basically dictates his personality. Semblances are a reflection of the soul and his soul basically forces him to adopt a hyperfocused, stubborn Iron Will mindset and act on it without no choice on his part. He's a slave to his Semblance. If anything, Ironwood could be considered neurodivergent because his mentality is something that he doesn't have any control over.
.
.
Anyways. after that we got the RWBY Volume 8 Teaser. Now this was something that was more in line with the dark and stressed tone of the Volume compared to the WIP Teasers.
Ruby: Atlas is only Salem's current target. She's not hiding any more and once she's done here, she'll move on to the rest of Remnant. We need to warn them!
Ren: There are people here who need us right now.
Ruby or Weiss (couldn't tell from just the audio): But this isn't about just Atlas. It's about all of Remnant.
Ironwood: You're still worried about Mantle?! Salem will destroy Atlas and with it, any hope that humanity has left.
...
Salem: I have questions for you. But first I need the one to show me how.
That's it.

2020.09.17 00:03 GabeDrumBeats7Seals Changing the way you are for someone else...

From time to time I find myself looking in the mirror at who I am and I’d say I’m content for 80% of the time but then we have those moments where we aren’t, we wish we were someone else or we just aren’t as happy as we wish we could be, and then when it comes to finding that “significant other” we as men are expected to try but what happens when you’re rejected constantly or even made to feel like there is something wrong with you? The woman/girl hardly ever makes the move first, you hear stories rarely that they do sometimes but I don’t see it, even the ones where they fall in love with their best friend first.
It’s difficult because MY best friend lives in FL and I’m in CA but we’ve never met before, we talk constantly and even FT together for hours and talk on the phone YET when bringing up the dating aspect she tells me “even if I lived in the same street as you I’d NEVER date you Gabriel, we just don’t click or share the same views mentally”, she’s a Capricorn and I’m a Leo but that shouldn’t matter, my aunt and uncle are the same and they have kids and are married. They say opposites attract and she’s CERTAIN if we met her view of me “wouldn’t” change but how can she be so sure?
I’m NOT ugly, I know this so what’s the deal?
It would be ironic if she ended up falling for me while I’ve tried countless time and have yet to find anyone NEAR me, but I’m not holding my breath.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that sometimes I don’t know what to wear to impress people and I KNOW that’s wrong, my clothes shouldn’t make me any more or less appealing but sadly the truth is that’s what they see first, APPEARANCE, I tend to stand out so what’s wrong with me?
Is it my intimidating factor? I’ve literally fought with people for about the past 4-5 days straight for NO REASON at all, I don’t have a bad energy about me, I’m sure of it.
Do I change who I am or keep on keeping on?
I wish it were easier to just have the one thing money can’t buy, that’s the hardest part of all.

2020.09.16 23:33 rating-throwaway88 Yesterday we agreed that Pisces men are wack, what about other signs?

So I read all the comments below yesterday’s astrology post and most girls tend to agree that the worst male signs they have seen/dated are:
Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, and Pisces.
Just realized this is like 80% of all the signs lol.
Main culprits were Pisces, Scorpio, Cancer, Virgo, and Taurus. These are mainly water and earth signs.
I saw very little about Aries, Libra, and Aquarius.
What does FDS think? Are these signs slightly better? What signs have you had good relationships with?

2020.09.16 18:12 changitiger I have a few thoughts about you while I'm sipping my whiskey.

I guess i never really, really thought about it. It was always just a niggling feeling, just that idea at the back of my head. That I was probably, just a teensy-weensy, bit in love with you. That we've been friends for years now, drinking buddies, me being "one of the boys" to our little trio of 2 guys and a girl, and i've always been just a tiny bit more attentive to you, just a tiny bit more partial to your preferences, than I was with our other friend.
Of course you never showed me anything more than tough love in that brusque big brother kind of way, but I don't know. I guess I always had this feeling too--that you were, also, just the teeniest bit in love with me. That you got a touch annoyed whenever i glanced at my phone during our drinking sessions, and that you scheduled those drinking sessions in the first place because you wanted to see me. Maybe i'm just delusional, but that's how it seemed to me. I never shared this opinion with anyone, though.
And 2 yeara ago, when I announced that i had found someone who could mend the pieces of the broken heart left by the ex you always mafe fun of, i felt--wishful thinking--that maybe it wasnt such welcome news to you. I saw that, I think, in the way you blinked, or the way you avoided asking too many questions about this new guy i was dating, unlike our other friend. And i wanted to shake you, confront you, ask you--then why did you never make a move? Because it was embarrassing, knowing you've fallen for a girl the complete opposite of what you've always pegged as your ideal--refined, classy, health buff? Or was it because you'd just come out of a 12 yr relationship and you didnt know how to make a move on a girl who probably got you to share about the disintegration of that relationship more than you ever thought you were willing to? The point is, you never did. It was always just there--that hovering feeling (confidence? Delusion?) that you felt an attraction the same way I did, but you went out of your way to make sure I believed (and maybe make sure you did too) that it wasn't there.
So now here we are, 2 years later, and the moment ive been secretly, at the deepest recesses of my mind, dreading, has come--you are finally dating someone. I do believe you are happy. Atleast happier now than you were 2 years ago. I exclaim excitement and happiness for your blossoming love. Still, i can't help but wonder if this is because you've finally accepted the fact that I am happy with my boyfriend. That maybe, you thought, just like my last relationship, this wouldnt last past a few months. But it has. And maybe it's time for you to move on (from me or your ex? I don't know) too.
And I am happy with my boyfriend. He was a balm to my wounded heart, and he is a balm to my soul. And i think he really could be the one i'll spend a long, long time with.
It's just that here i am, sipping whiskey right after you announced your happy news, feeling just a tiny bit of an ache, a discomfort, somewhere inside my chest, which I don't think signals a heart attack. And i think of what i always thought of when we were together--that you're a Leo and and I'm a Sagittarius, and the stars say we're compatible.

2020.09.16 03:30 Crowetry 27 [M4F] NY, East Coast USA, but can be anywhere. Going to be a bit verbose, but I mean what I say. I see myself as a loving, caring person.

Hey. I'm going to throw out a tl;dr just incase. Because Im going to rant a bit. Read as far as you want, I guess, then send me a message, maybe with some contact info, or maybe we can chat here. I dont care.
Tldr I'm male, 27, husky but I do take care of myself, losing weight and I have good hygiene. I'm an Agnostic raised Catholic. I'm a Leo. A personality test told me I am INFJ-A, but certain things in the results were untrue. I'm a closet weeb, PC gamer, and secretive writer. I work for an airline, I can visit anywhere domestically in the US virtually for free. I am not used to being like this. I might have some kind of codependency issue or something. I like to be attached at the hip with someone (im clingy, but really just enjoy presence). Its the closest thing to living together to me until that happens (to me, it is an inevitability for someone I care about). I am an affectionate, verbose romantic who loves to give and spoil, but hates to be used and manipulated. I am talkative, and love discussions. I like birds but generally will enjoy any activity with a person I love. I am a listener.
Thats the shortest tldr I can think of. Im sorry. If im going to be honest, I cant say Id want to be with someone who cant be bothered to read the things I write. Ill elaborate when Im bitching later. Ill start off by not being so negative and instead: describing myself, because I have confidence. There's just a concept there to be explored that no one ever does.
I am the kind of person, who, in the absence of closer and more physical daily alternative, will call you every single night, and fall asleep with you in a call, on discord, or skype, or facebook, or whatever the hell it is you feel like using.
I dont care what it is, because I am accomodating. I will enjoy things that you enjoy, download things that youd prefer to use if it makes you more comfortable, eat food you like or need to eat to support your diets, watch movies you like and listen to music with you. I am accomodating because I know what it is like for the world to beat you down and then pretend you have no one to blame but yourself for your choices and tastes and that you are worthless if you are molded by your experiences, positive and negative. Everyone is more than others like to give credit for. But your "flaws" do not define you. I do not believe anyone is not capable of love. If you have trust issues. If youre worried about me being unfaithful, I will prove that I am not as long as you can put down your pitchfork and be a little apologetic for misunderstanding. I will not be offended if you dont trust me completely. Trust is earned. If you become sad often, or lonely, or want to express yourself often, or you have OCD, I will listen, I will comfort, I will adapt. Ill do everything I can and I wont give up.
I will love the person I fall in love with, deeply.
These qualities have made me easy to abuse. I have been emotionally abused before. This does not mean I dont have standards. I want to remain true to myself. I just really, really want to fucking give myself to the right God damn person for once.
Who is the right person? I can't say. No, I am not shallow. I do not care what you look like, how you dress. Or what kind of music you like. I just care that you can care. That youre capable of loving someone and putting them before yourself. That you think of me and say "I want to make this person's days brighter" because you feel it, and you'd appreciate someone reciprocating. While Im okay with people being jealous, sad, needy, clingy, whatever; the kind of baggage I cant handle is the kind that makes you want to leave. Dont give me the "I need to work on myself" shit; as if I couldnt be supportive of positive change in a relationship. If you just broke up with your ex or are currently dating them and thinking about breaking up with them; do not contact me, please. Because when you're with me for a few days and they hit you up, youre just going to think about the time youve spent with them; and go back to them no matter how much better I would have been for you. Itll just be a giant annoying waste of fucking time for me. I would rather build something with someone who doesnt want to waste time with their shitty exes. If you've blocked them and resolved to keep them blocked, then were cool.
If you like videogames and stuff thats a plus. It means we can participate in more stuff together, but it isnt important. Id really first and foremost rather have someone who gives a shit about me. Someone who can talk, who isnt shallow, who isnt constantly testing me to see if im desperate or some stupid shit that everyone loves to speculate about. Someone who i dont have to be afraid of expressing my own feelings to, positive or negative for fear of coming off corny, or too intense, or annoying.
I just want to be my fucking self. Thats why im posting here. Its why i hate dating apps. People are averse to conversation, and its fucking annoying. I'm much less negative, normally.
Send me a message. I may edit this post later with more details as I think of them.

NXM ROI 515.36%
What does this say? To me, it says that this coin was not only overhyped, it was and is completely overvalued as of this date. It has a near -90% ROI. In my opinion, that means early investors didn’t get what they were expecting, the pre-ICO team was way off base, and the valuation was done by persons inexperienced with the crypto space. It’s hard to see how the miss could have been so far off.
77% (approx.) of eligible buyers took advantage of the early refund process. This says a lot about confidence of returns. The auction schedule has changed which now favors early backers/relay nodes in a questionable manner. And there is no information as to the next auction which leaves relay nodes as one of the few mechanisms by which large amounts of coins are introduced into the market.
Billions of coins still need to enter the market and the process is to hold off on auctions and allow relay nodes and founders to stabilize the price via timing of the introduction of coins. In short, managed demand for a product that does not have the retail demand to move the price to near introduction price.
Wrapped Bitcoin had a 6 month head start and an almost 300% difference in ROI. as far as Zcash, we won’t go there. But it is interesting to note that it uses some of Micali’s work and Zooko Wilcox-O’Hearn did reference prior works by Micali re: the Goldwasser-Micali-Rivest Signature Scheme.
I may have to amend my prediction of ETH displacement by several years since it’s very unclear now as to when all coins will be in the market. Think about it, would you invest in a 401k that had a ROI of near -90% ? This isn’t FUD. Where most coins provided a reasonable valuation, Algorand for some odd reason had this ridiculous valuation which exposes the inexperience relative to the crypto space. “Let’s hire some folks, tell them what we FEEL it’s worth, and get some people to market it. Oops looks like we seriously overvalued this thing.”
Schedule the auctions back to the original timeline. Let the price be dictated by the market as it needs to be. This will generate the needed demand and the price/valuation will be corrected by market forces and not a select group. Sure some will lose, but some will gain in the sell off. There is no way to moon if a select group regulates the influx of coins without a competing mechanism.
This is not financial advice. Do your own research. This post is for entertainment purposes only.

2020.09.15 12:56 Heart-Key China Moon Landing Architecture

China Moon Landing Architecture
Introduction
China has been methodically planning to go to the Moon for a long while at this stage. They were planning on doing a CZ-9 based crewed Luna landing in ~2036. However with the formulation of 921, this timeline has likely been accelerated 5-8 years. The Director of Chang’e program, Dr Wu Weiren stated in 2019 that they’re aiming at a crewed lunar landing within 10 years. Additional roadmaps have been released showing a 2030 Lunar landing. This is the current architecture they want to use to achieve this goal, as far as I’m aware.

921 Next Generation Crew Launch Vehicle
(known colloquially as CZ-FH)
SHLV designed to get China to the Moon (among other things) which began development in 2017. Capabilities wise, this is very similar to SLS B1 with 70 ton to LEO and 25 to TLI. Design wise, imagine ICPS on Falcon Heavy.
921
China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation chose to pursue this as a lower risk alternative to LM-9, which was at a much lower TRL compared to 921 as a result of the large hydrolox engine YF-220 and the large kerolox engine YF-480, as well as the 9ish m diameter tanking.
921 2020 China Space Presentation Slide
Baseline technology at this stage is very mature.
  • Engines: YF-100K (Improved version of YF-100 with gimbal, higher thrust and lower mass), YF-100M (vacuum optimised version of YF-100) and YF-75D all fairly mature engines having either been derived or already flying on the existing CZ-5 and CZ-7
  • 5m Kerolox tanking based on CZ-5 tanking.
  • Flight control technology again inherited from CZ-5 and CZ-7
  • Upper stage taken directly from CZ-5
Progress:
Tanking
Structural test tanks demonstrating common bulkheads have been completed.
Test Article in Factory
Test Article on Test Stand
Worth noting is that while 921 uses the same-ish tanking as CZ-5, there are several improvements being implemented:
  • lightweight high-strength aluminum alloy
  • 3D printing utilized for bulkheads
  • Common bulkheadds
Structural test articles have also been made of the booster engine mount.
First stage / booster engine mount structural test article
Engines
The YF-100K completed a 300s test firing at the beginning of 2019. The YF-75 upper stage is already being used for CZ-5 launches. YF-100M is a vacuum optimised/start-able version of the YF-100, but there shouldn't be any major issues associated with it. (For reference YF-100K are improved version of the YF-100 with greater thrust, less mass and ability to gimbal (I think, it's translates as "pump back swing")
YF-100K Test Firing
YF-75 Test Firing
YF-75 Upper stage
When to expect a debut? 2025 has been chucked around in various news articles; however an official date hasn’t really been released yet. 2025 feels feasible; given that the project is at a high TRL. Falcon Heavy took 10 years from announcement to getting to space and in a lot of ways 921 isn’t as initially ambitious as it; so 2025 is achievable in my books. There has been indication that they’re going to take a more iterative development path which demos 1 stage launch, then 2 stage launch etc instead of launching the full stack for the first launch.
Next Generation Crewed Space Capsule
Deep space capsule which weighs in at 21.6 tons. This is less than Orion, however it has a greater amount of fuel which means that it can do LLO architectures. (About 10 t of propellant which with ISP of 314 gives total delta-v of 1914m/s)
In Factory
It recently did a major test flight in May, roughly equivalent to the Delta IV Heavy launch of Orion back in 2014. (read: there's still a bit of development that needs to take place) China plans to phase out Shen Zhou and replace it with a LEO version of this craft to send crew to the Chinese Modular Space Station. Given that it's being baselined to launch on the 921, in a functional configuration it'll probably only start launching in 2025.
921 Lunar and LEO versions
Lander
The lander currently has the least available information, as it only began development in 2019, however at a baseline it weighs 20 tons, takes 2 Taikonauts to the Moon’s surface and here have a couple renders. I've read that "8t, moon landing engine (10:1-15:1), liquid oxygen kerosene or liquid oxygen methane (competitive relationship)” was in development. Methalox seems to be the more likely choice; kerolox isn't that great for deep space exploration.
Ladder Technology
Lander hours
Moon Lander Slide
Luna Landing Plan
Dual launch architecture:
  • 921 launches the lander to a 300km circular LLO
  • 921 then launches the Capsule with 3 Taikonaut's, which meets up with lander
  • 2 Taikonaut's go to the surface and perform moon landing.
  • Lander then takes off, meets up with capsule in LLO, and they head on their way home.
Diagram of Moon Landing Architecture
Additional notes:
  • I’ve seen slides which uses a lunar space station as a rendezvous point (acting as a Gateway equivalent (/copy if you feel that way inclined)), however I’m not willing to say at this stage whether they will or won’t use one. Edit: I think this might be the Tianzhou cargo vessel, which would launch on 921 as well.
Grain of salt
I would highly recommend taking the information you’ve just read with a grain of salt.
  • Sources
I’m relying on potentially questionable sources for certain information. Even taking the word of program managers is also mixed. (also there might be some uncertainty in regards to mass of Lunar lander and whether it's in metric or imperial tons)
  • Google translate
A lot of information in here is from google translated Chinese articles on the topic; which means that there is likely mistranslated/misinterpreted information here.

2020.09.15 06:43 blue84HB Gaming/Media Server PC for First Time Canadian Builder

>**What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.**
Gaming and media storage. I occasionally stream, but it's not the priority. I am considering the possibility of this doubling as a media server.
>**What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?**
$2000 CAD
>**When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.**
Flexible.
>**What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc\)**
Tower, OS, probably due for a new keyboard/mouse as well.
>**Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?**
Ontario, Canada
**If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.**
HP 22er 21.5-inch Monitor
Would like to incorporate my current PC's harddrive so I don't have to spend time copying things over, but could also make it an external.
>**Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?**
Maybe down the line.
>**Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)**
Built-in WiFi - running cable in my place was attempted for a long time and does not work.
>**Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?**
No, unfortunately the tower has to live inside a desk, so it doesn't have to be pretty. Keyboard and mouse can be pretty though!
>**Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?**
No preference
>**Extra info or particulars:**
I'm adding what came out of ChooseMyPC.net here. I'm not 100% clear if this meets the needs I stated above, so advice would be great. Additionally, the RAM seems really low to me, so recommendations on that front are also appreciated.

2020.09.14 15:45 DandaDan Manchester Open 2020: Discussion thread

UPDATE Tuesday, Sep 15th:
Please note that the draws are changing rapidly with more and more players dropping out and draws being re-drawn. Many comments here were made on Monday when the draw was completely different.
Players who I believe have dropped out:
Miguel Rodriguez, Diego Elias, Gregory Gaultier, Darly Selby (replaced by: Nathan Lake, Benjamin Aubert, Richie Fallows, George Parker)
Women: no drop-outs so far (I think)
Good source: twitter.com/PSAWorldTour
Edit 2: Manchester Open website, most up to date draws: https://manchesteropensquash.com/results
Women's draw
Men's draw
Live streaming: Eurosport Player (Europe) & PSA Squash TV (rest of world), subscriptions required. Also: PSA Facebook page & YouTube (side court)
Squashsite coverage
Preamble:
Ladies and gentlemen,
PSA Squash is back! Finally. It's been six months, or 187 days to be precise, since we saw MES beat Ali Farag in a 3:2 win. It was a great match worthy of a big finale, though who you knew it'd be the last live Squash match we'd see for half a year? Both players are back in action in Manchester, seeded one and two, and you know MES will be ready to go since he is missing follow-up tournaments in Egypt. Not having seen player for six months means predictions are pointless, so I won't offer mine. However, following an extremely solid tournament win in Prague, Gaultier looks to be back in contention. Not many players can restrict Kandra to less then six points per game. He's likely to play Elias in round two, the winner playing MES in the quarters. Dessouky played some incredible Squash at Canary Wharf and he certainly has the confidence to take on Superman Coll in round two.
First round matches to look out for:
Momen vs Al Tamimi - arguably the two fastest players on tour, with Al Tamimi almost beating Momen in their previous encounter.
Castagnet v Rösner - following some dental work, Castagnet found some form in March and looked close to his best again.
Selby vs Marwan - fan favourite Selby against villainous Marwan. This might be Selby's last season, I'm sure he is looking for that upset.
For the ladies the wait has been even longer, they played their last tournament in February 2020 in Kairo and there has not been a warm-up event. There's been huge news though: world number one Raneem El Welily announced her retirement. Raneem, often compared to Shabana in the way she approached Squash, will be missed, but what a great way to finish a career: as world number one!
While Nouran Gohar is the new world number one, her and El Sherbini are missing in Manchester. Thus opening up the draw for the Egyptian number three, Nour El Tayeb, seeded two. However, it was young Egyptian Hania El Hammamy who won that last tournament in February and showed the world that it's the Egyptian number four who might be the one to watch this season. Though Serme, Perry, Sobhy and King will be eager to stop the Egyptian domination, especially on European soil.
First round matches to look out for:
Camille Serme v Sabrina Sobhy - I'm a big fan of Sohby, particularly after she relocated to Egypt for her training base. This might be her year.
Alves v Hany - it's not all Camille Serme in France: Alves is an exciting French player capable of beating higher-ranked players.
Lastly, shout-out to Campbell Grayson and Leo Au who both retired recently. Fingers crossed that the tournament runs safely and soundly. As far as I can tell, Greater Manchester Corona levels are high and I'm just hoping that we don't have similar drama like with the Tennis US Open.
Enjoy the Squash & discussion!

2020.09.14 14:24 Army_Bot Summary For: Weekly Question Thread (9/7/2020 to 9/13/2020)

Okay I don't know shit about the army but my friend is in basic combat training and I haven't talked to him since he left in mid July, he sent me a text message while in training with a picture of his camp address and said send mail. Probably a dumb question but is it normal to send some food or snacks or do I just send him a letter?

So been in for three years, and was checking my ERB, and noticed I'm a few days past my AGCM eligibility date. And was just wondering how does that whole thing work? Is it automatic, or does your COC actually decide last minute, 'eh fuck it, hes not getting this.'

My wife and I have both made the swap to active duty from reserve. I’m currently at reclass until mid November, she reports to Carson permanently on 5 Oct. She’s currently being told that she can’t take our daughter? I don’t know if the Army just isn’t tracking that I’m on training orders, but any advice here would be nice. She’s a bit freaked out by this. Thanks.

Does Civil Affairs require airborne qualification as part of the training pipeline? As far as I can tell, Psyops does but I can’t find that info on CA.
Also, anyone who’s gone through CA training recently—what are the expectations when it comes to rucking? I’ve been idly considering trying out for a while, but rucking is my worst physical event.

11 weeks away from having my first child.
Currently “deployed”. Stil haven’t been given the word on if my packet is approved to go home using my paternity leave. Also, as I was discussing with my wife and looking at flights (policy states it’s at my expense to fly home) we realized and panicked because I don’t have a passport.
Will travel orders and my ID suffice?

I'm a 28 year old prior service reservist trying to reenlist active duty. I'm especially interested in 18Xray and am in shape, speak German and Russian, and have a bachelor's in international relations. My question is, since my recruiter is trying to push me to reenlist in my old MOS and I'd rather not continue being an 89A, is 18X an option? I have less than 48 months active duty, I was in the reserve for 6 years but only ever did ATs and drill weekends. I'm not sure how the PSBR affect me is all.

Does AIT Count for Post 9/11?
I’m a army reservist and just finished a 22 week AIT school back in February. Now I’m going to college and I’m wondering if I qualify for Post 9/11 GI bill? I did some research and if AIT does count then I qualify for 50% . Also what other time counts towards the Post 9/11 GI Bill?

Prefacing this with, I understand it's my life, my choices, my career path I just think some people here might be able to give me perspective.
I'm 25, I graduated college with a 2.6 gpa and a degree in Information Technology. I recently got a spot in my cities Police Academy (3rd biggest department in the country) and it has a lot of pathways if I were to pass that interest me (Aviation, SWAT, Criminal Intelligence), ultimately I want to be a federal agent or work for the United States Diplomatic Security Service.
However, I also grew up watching things like band of brothers and have a best friend in the Army Infantry and I feel like I'm missing out on my younger years to take the opportunity to join the army. I would love to enlist in the infantry and go jump out of planes and do battle drills, but my friend told me unless you're in the SOF community not a whole lot is going on and I'd be better off joining the national guard infantry to get my dose of the "hooah life" (sorry if that sounds ignorant). I really just want to go infantry so I can live out of a backpack with the boys and deploy and live that life thats portrayed but he says that is far from reality. Does anyone here have experience going from Mil to LEO (specifically infantry) or LEO to Mil? Or does anyone have experience with the guard and could give their opinion if the NG Infantry gave them the fulfillment they're looking for while also being a civilian police officer? I realize I haven't even started the academy but I don't want to be a waste of a spot if my heart isn't in it. Thanks for any insight anyone would like to provide.

Hi everyone, I just have some questions as I’m pretty nervous right now.
I haven’t consumed marijuana in 106 days as of today. I’ve been going to the recruiter every week for drug tests but they’re all showing positive. I’ve also been taking at home tests every day and a few days ago they started showing negative (with a very faint line).
I went to the recruiter today for a test and it showed positive. My recruiter told me that he is sending me to MEPS next week anyway because “there is no way anything is in your system after this long”.
I’m extremely nervous, being in the Army is all I want in my life and I’ve made many changes over the past 4 months to be better and stronger for service. I really don’t want my military career to be over before it even starts, what should I do? He wants to send me to MEPS on Monday (6 days from today) and I really don’t want a positive test. Should I try to postpone it until I get a negative test in the office?

So I’m a 29year old mom of 3, currently enrolled at community college. Need advice on joining. I been on the fence and need help if I should just jump already. I been wanting to join the army since forever but when I got pregnant at 18 then 2 times right after I had to put my plans on hold. Now that they are older and don’t need their butts wiped by me anymore the army has been on my mind pretty much everyday now. Does age play a big part? Is it to late? I actually don’t even feel or look 29years old. I think this is something that I will beat myself up about later in life if I don’t join but at the same time I keep telling myself it might be to late.

Intelligence/medical MOS where you don't end up behind a desk?
Hey community! I'm trying to figure out what MOS i should go with and i would appreciate your help.
I'm drawn to Intelligence and the medical field and they seem to be a good balance of brains and 'fun' but I will be miserable if i end up with a desk job or something really mondane. As in the real kind of miserable. I'm not an adrenalin junky but i need some sunlight and a challenge.
Caught my eye: 35M,35F,35L,35W,68W. I excluded the rest of both series because they seemed too indoorsy.
Spent the last few days trying to do some research and realized i have a chance of ending up behind a desk/doing nothing in every one of these jobs so i'm just looking for some insight about these or others that I might of missed.
If it makes any difference i'm in my late twenties,AA,Good Asvab.

So I ship to fort sill on the 22nd this month as a 68c (nurse). My recruiter has been telling me that the only way to enter as an e-2 is with college credits (my school wasn't on the approved list) or with referrals (that's not going to happen) online information seems dated or scattered rather. I found and was told by another recruiter that finishing the future soldier classes and passing a pt test will get one rank to e-2. However my recruiter seems disinterested in pursuing this. I tried searching here and a couple other places and can't find any concrete info. Any recruiters know how I could skip the decreased pay as an entry e-1 and enter as an e-2 since this is ... Borderline a deal breaker for me entering.

68w questions
Background: I am currently an E-5 in the Army reserves. My current MOS is 88n and I will have 3 yrs TIS in April 2021. I wish to reclass and go active once my contract is up in 2024 (hopefully sooner if I can get a conditional release).
I am interested in several MOSs and am trying to learn as much as I can before I go active. One of which is 68w.
1) what is AIT like? Especially as an e-5 MOS-T.
2) what can I expect as an e-5 after AIT and once I reach my duty station?
3) what is the school for the identifier Nationally Registered Flight Paramedic (68wF2) like?
4) if I ever chose to try something like special forces, would this help me? Especially with something like 18d.
5) once I transition out, hopefully after a full 20yr career, would this be a good mos for something like a flight paramedic for a hospital?
Feel free to answer as many or as few as you like. Any other information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Earned a USCG Meritorious Team unit Award while I served in the Marine Corps Reserve. The award was not allowed on the Marine Uniform. Is it authorized to wear on the Army uniform? I was looking up AR 670-1 but couldn't find anything on awards from different services aside from badges. I will most likely have to reattend basic training and would like to wear it on my uniform during graduation.

Currently starting the commissioning process and I have a few questions that my recruiter didn’t know the answer to (he said he would ask someone above him but I have yet to hear back).
I am graduating university in August 2021. Assuming I complete all of my paperwork, MEPS, and interviews by December of 2020, and get selected to go to OCS (I’ve been told this could take as long as 6 months from the point I finish all of the paperwork), would I probably be going to basic as soon as I graduate university?
If that is the case, after basic, how long does it typically take until OCS starts? I tried searching for this online and I found a post saying it could b 12 months, is that true ? What do you do between graduating basic and going to OCS, and could it really be that long of a time period ?
Thank you.

Hi guys, I should probably preface this by saying I’m in the Guard. I’m currently attending college and I just graduated AIT. I would really love to do SF in the Guard but I know that in addition to being physically stupendous, I also have to be mentally mature. As I don’t wish to go to selections every year until I get selected (if ever), should I drop a packet the moment I get a chance or is there a recommended maturity level other than the minimum 21 that you would recommend? I don’t think I’m very immature, but I’m also aware that I am not the most mature person out. Also is there any schools that anybody recommend I push for before I drop a packet? The PT portion hasn’t been much of a problem. I’ve been following HTK’a Elite Operator plan (Fantastic if anybody else is interested). Anyway sorry for asking so much. Any help is appreciated!

Hi, currently in the NG looking to become an officer in the reserves. Hey been intrested for quite some time in joining the army ever since I was in high school but my mother really held me against joining because I was her only family. Now im 24 and feel like I may be too old.
My main reason for joining is to build myself up again and just maybe have some more purpose in life.
I have some college under my belt and I have my comptia A+ certifications and a background in IT. But im really not sure if i could get in shape like I used to... i tried taking a physical test to become a park ranger which is the same test as the police physical test but i only had 2 weeks to get in shape for it and unfortunately I failed by 5 sit ups. Tbh the next part of the test was the run and I barely was able to do that in practicing only doing 1.5 miles in 12 mins.
And then I dont know where I would be most useful or where I would best fit in as job in the army.
Thinking about going down to my local recruiter and asking them more and seeing if I could be acceptable enough for the army.

Hello all, fresh 27 year old. Was thinking of joining since I was 18 and as I get older I don’t want to regret not serving my country. Bachelors degree and masters courses under my belt and was employed as a teacher prior. I’m physically fit and played decently high level basketball my whole life up until the pandemic.
Three questions: 1.is 27 years old going to be a hinderance in any way shape or form? 2. What are the pros and cons of enlisted vs officer 3. If I’m married what kind of things are out there to help the family out? Such as after basic would I go back to living with them? Etc

I know that my promotion from E-1 to E-2 is “automatic”, but does that mean that it’s already happened since I hit my 6 months TIS at the beginning of this month? I just graduated airborne school so no one here has really told me anything about it and as I don’t have my CAC pin yet I can’t check. I ordered a couple fresh sets of OCPs with E-2 sewn on, and I’m curious if I’m authorized to wear the rank yet or if I have to wait until my CoC gives me the go ahead when I get to my unit.

Basically he’s given me a whole lot of reasons why he can’t join but the one that’s been bothering me the most is that he claims that his mother needs to sign a slip saying he can enlist because he’s the last of his lineage. Now I smell bs but I’m not a recruiter so I don’t know if that’s true. If I could get any recruiter’s input I would appreciate it.

So, a little back story.
I’m 26 years old, married (for a few years now), and I feel like at this point in my life it’s the best decision I can make for my future and my family’s. We live in a very poor, rural area in the south, with very limited opportunities. I’m a college dropout who has worked nothing but soul crushing, back breaking jobs to this point in my life (high school janitor, cement factory, metal factory, chemical factory, rail yard grunt, pizza delivery driver and gas station attendant. I’m tired of feeling as if I have no purpose and the jobs obviously aren’t fulfilling. I desperately want to go back to school but not take out a shit ton of student loans, would like to take advantage of TA while enlisted, and the GI when out. As far as MOS goes I would love to do public affairs/journalism/photography as those are passions of mine. Would like to stay the fuck away from anything maintenance considering that’s what I’m trying to get away from. Wife is very supportive and we have been together long enough that we aren’t really sweating any challenges it will bring (for now lol), she’s a nurse so we both see it as a great opportunity for me to get ahead and her as well considering we could hopefully bank her pay and live off of my pay and BHA.
We already own our home (an RV we live in lol I’m not as white trash as it sounds) so the only debt we have is her car. Any advice or thoughts would be great! BTW, considering army due to wanting to have a guaranteed job in contract (Been told army is only branch that can do so)

So this is probably a bit random, but I've been looking over the internet and have found many mixed responses, most of which are 6+ years old now, I'm considering enlisting next year and I was looking into infantry, but I wear glasses and I don't think I'm interested in eye surgery, I was wondering what the common options are when deployed, I can only find answers for what they give you while in basic training, do you have a specific pair or prescription for when your deployed and just get the option of wearing your regular glasses any other time while you're not? I apologise if this is a stupid question I'm just having issues finding a response for the options when it comes to eyeglasses.

Hey guys, I'm a E3 91B in the reserves, been in almost 2 years. I'm bored at my Unit, I'm tired of being in the reserves, being surrounded by unmotivated people and not ever doing my MOS. I wanted to get some insight on what it was like being infantry. I'm a really hard worker, and an upbeat person. I don't LOVE early mornings but I can do it with a smile on my face, and a hella lot of motivation. My last PT test was a few weeks ago and scored 293. I only hit Marksman on my last rifle qual, but it was the first I've even touched a rifle in over a year, I qualified expert at basic. I qualed the first time unlike most of the platoon. I run 4 times a week, and do pushups/pullups/core daily, and I've never fallen out of a ruck. The only thing is I get a bit of anxiety, but if I find I'm really good at something it gives me a lot of confidence and helps me overcome that. That's generally why I'm so active, gives me more confidence to overcome my anxiety. I'm just wondering, would infantry be a good choice for someone like me? Is it not what it's cut out to be? I just want a life that has more meaning than what I do in the reserves. I still work hard, and always embrace the suck, but everything I do feels so futile. I try my best to learn the battle drills they're teaching us, but when I look around and nobody else is paying attention or clearly in any shape to deploy, I feel like I'm wasting my time. I want to walk up the stairs without hearing my battle buddies huffing and puffing, I don't want to finish every run alone. I want to be part of a team of champions. I want to see things that less than 1% of people ever get to see or experience. I also really really want to go to airborne school. Just any insight on combat arms would be great, again I've never done any active time aside from initial entry training and really don't want to get ahead of myself.

I have a question regarding retirement options. I understand there is a new blended retirement that incoming soldiers who enlist after 2018 must opt into. I wonder, if you enlisted in the army before 2018 and are returning as a prior service do you get to stay with the other retirement plan, or do you have to opt into the blended?

Hey everyone, I wanted some opinions regarding some thoughts of enlisting. I currently have my ADN and am a practicing RN, I have 3 years of ELevel 1 Trauma under my belt and have taken care of most everything imaginable. My family has a long military background with my half uncle being a Green Beret, I am borderline about to enlist as 18x in hopes of landing 18D. I have a strong passion to serve my country and follow in the footsteps of my family. Anyone have any experience with any situation of this sort? Tips? Give me your downright honest thoughts.

Graduating in early November but ACT says I don't report to my unit until early January. I have airborne school in my contract which I assume means I'll be attending that school somewhere in between this time. My question is, are they going to send me pretty quick after I graduate, am I going to be spending my christmas at airborne school or am I sticking at AIT until I get a school date?
Obviously nobody here is my S-1 but I'm trying to get some sort of idea from others who may have been in a similar situation.
Also, I’ve read you can have your POV at airborne school, can anyone confirm if this is true?

I'm about to go on a deployment (within the states) for a year. Before I do, I'm going to premob in Texas. I've heard a lot of people get sent home here for numerous reasons.
I have a rash that has been on and off haunting me. As of recently its acting up bad. Im fairly certain its psoriasis rosea. Is this something that could disqualify me from deployment? Also im thinking I should get it treated before I go to dull it down again like I have in the past. If I do, and get on meds, will the meds disqualify me from deploying? I heard meds get people sent home a lot.
What are other thinks that get people the boot to back home? Cavities? Allergies (latex?). Thanks in advanced!

Hello,
I am 29. I’ve done a great deal of research around why one should/shouldn’t join the army right now, especially under this administration.
While I really have no desire to serve under poor leadership I do believe that this opportunity will help me get closer to my new career goal of working at a federal agency.
Currently living in New York. Meeting with a recruiter soon. I still have a lot of questions about what I’m getting myself into by committing to joining only because it’s a big commitment. I guess I think of worse case scenario.. would I get deployed to go fight? I’m terrified of that idea especially under a wreckless president.
Is it too late in life to consider a move to the army at 29 years old? Also, my background is in marketing. Would I be leveraging this skill set in the army until my term of service is over? Hoping for a term of service no longer than 2 to 3 years so that then I can go apply for a federal agency job.

I have less than 48 months active duty, I was in the reserve for 6 years but only ever did ATs and drill weekends. I'm not sure how the PSBR affect me is all.

My spouse is collecting unemployment. Would me enlisting affect her unemployment?

Hey everyone, I wanted some opinions regarding some thoughts of enlisting. I currently have my ADN and am a practicing RN, I have 3 years of ELevel 1 Trauma under my belt and have taken care of most everything imaginable. My family has a long military background with my half uncle being a Green Beret, I am borderline about to enlist as 18x in hopes of landing 18D. I have a strong passion to serve my country and follow in the footsteps of my family. Anyone have any experience with any situation of this sort? Tips? Give me your downright honest thoughts.

Dumb question (current newbie soldier) - when you are on post in civilians what do you do during flag raising?

Graduating in early November but ACT says I don't report to my unit until early January. I have airborne school in my contract which I assume means I'll be attending that school somewhere in between this time. My question is, are they going to send me pretty quick after I graduate, am I going to be spending my christmas at airborne school or am I sticking at AIT until I get a school date?
Obviously nobody here is my S-1 but I'm trying to get some sort of idea from others who may have been in a similar situation.
Also, I’ve read you can have your POV at airborne school, can anyone confirm if this is true?

What is life like as a 12B combat engineer, what does your day consist of and what are some civilian jobs you can get once you get out?

I attempted to commit suicide when I was 9 years old. I have no recollection of the incident. Is there any way I could get into the army having this in my medical history

I've been living in the us for eleven years now, im 22, I have always wanted to join the army, and do my part to become part of something bigger than me, unfortunately the two times I've asked questions, both times were the same answer, I couldn't join because of my illegal status in the us, I've heard stories of seargents who joined without papers, and some army guys I've had talked to say it is possible talking to the right people, hopefully I found them here.
